This is a Sheffield landmark recording of keyboardist/composer James Newton Howard and his friends from the group "Toto" (James Newton Howard, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, keyboards; Jeff Porcaro, drums; Joe Porcaro, percussion) in original compositions for synthesizers and percussion. The music is sophisticated rock with jazz flavor, energetic and fresh. Produced and engineered by Bill Schnee. It is with great excitement that we bring this Sheffield Lab favorite back with a new process, Mastered from Analog Disc Originals -- Much ADO about Something! Originally recorded direct to analog disc, this recording as originally released on LP was noted for sonic transparency and impact. For this reissue, engineer Seth B. Winner first optimized mechanical playback of pure vinyl discs derived from the original metal parts. The Cedar system was used for transfer to digital and noise elimination. We are extremely proud of the end result, which brings the listener closer than ever to the sound of the live performance.

Classic sounds
Very pleased with my used CD purchase. This is a classic CD that should be in every audiophile’s collection. Lost mine somewhere and it had to be replaced.

Audiophile Classic in Every Sense
Classic Sheffield Lab recording. It has some of the very best sound that helped put Sheffield on the audiophile map. This recording has so many memorable, fun to listen to jazz/pop fusion (instrumental) songs by JHN.

Very interesting music!
I really enjoy this CD. Every song is dangerously catchy. The only problem is that it is way too short! The whole CD is about twenty-five minutes long. I would have loved many of the tracks to be much longer! I always get into the groove of the piece, and then it's over...

Direct Digital To Disc Master
This LP was recorded using Sheffield Labs "Direct Digital To Disc" (no tape) format. Due to it's superior sound quality, a number of stereo shops were using this CD to sell their products in the mid 80's, sold me a pair of Polk Monitor 7's. I was once a high end needle, cartridge, and turntable guy, my first copy was on vinyl. I still believe with good equipment, LP's are still superior in sound quality to all other formats of music reproduction. LP's just take up to much space. Great album.

JNH is that good!
When I first heard the music of James Newton Howard several years ago when I worked in Radio, I became a fan of his. I'd love to hear him do straight up popular jazz or pop music. He's that good.- G. Redd

Recording, great. Music, eh.
This CD is an excellent recording. If you are an audiophile and want something to demonstrate the quality of your system, it is worth getting, but otherwise the music left a little to be desired. I appreciate many different types of music, but this isn't one of them.

Ottima release....
Prezzo buono on confronto ad altri XRCD....

JAMES NEWTON HOWARD AND FRIENDS
as a fan of 'real' musicians and quality music, this is very enjoyable.toto are among the worlds finest musicians as is james.so the combination of the toto guys especially jeffrey porcaro( who i still rate as the best drummer ever no offence to gadd, vinnie, phil, neil)and james is a musical match made in heaven.the playing is first class with jeff,s shuffle unmistakable on E_minor shuffle.the sound quality is excellent the yamaha keyboard,s still sound good 24 year,s later .a totally instrumental affair, but very melodic and interesting.i love this muso stuff so i don,t need lyric,s.if you like fourplay, ritenour, carlton and sanborn this is for you no song,s just music . it's a little short in playing time but you have quality not quantity.jeff,s dad is also on percussion joe as well as david paich, steve porcaro.james has a long standing relationship with toto since the early 80's his string and orchestral arrangement,s complementing their various song styling,s perfectly as everyone know,s he is a well respected film score composer .the fugitive and waterworld being two examples of his fine work .he also composed the t.v.theme to E.R .i can heartily recommend this album to toto fan,s and fan,s of real musicianship quality. also thanks' to rick at EliteDigitalUK for selling a good product that i recieved in pristine condition.
