Can I put Garmin shock collar mechanism on this collar instead of plastic one it comes with?

I’m sure you could the collar is 3/4 wide but the material is softer than the original collar it’s not really stiff .They are made really well. Good luck

Does the metal clasp get hot when in the sun?

No. This has been an excellent collar for our boxer. We have had it a year and the coating is starting to rub off on the metal bracket so just purchased a second collar. I have never noticed the metal getting hot at all.
