Bandai Hobby HGBD 1/144 Gundam Shining Break "Build Divers" Model Kit

Due to COVID the kit took a bit longer to arrive, but that isn’t the sellers fault. It arrived in perfect shape, more than can be said for the kits I get from stateside, which Is awesome because this is the first transferable kit I’ve bought.

The HGBD Gundam Shining Break is essentially the perfect fusion of the Zeta Gundam and the Shining Gundam, two of the most beloved designs the Gundam franchise has had! While the core design and aspects of this model are great all around, there isn’t anything truly unique to me about this Gundam. Regardless, the Gundam Shining Break is a great kit if you’re a fan of Gundam Build Divers, Zeta Gundam, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, or satisfying model kit building in general.BUILD PROCESSWhile you aren’t going to encounter any mind-blowing details about this Gundam, you’ll certainly have good fun while building it. Each part of the model can be snapped together quickly once you get all of the parts out of their runners, resulting in the build never being too long or complicated. For more experienced builders like me, there are plenty of little spots which beg to be panel-lined or sharpened from a “safe” dull tip. The skeleton of this model is, unsurprisingly, almost entirely that of the HGFC Shining Gundam. If you’ve built that kit before, this one will feel quite similar. Still, the older design doesn’t result in any degradation in quality. The main complaint I have with the build process of the Gundam Shining Break is how many parts of the model look unfinished without some black paint or panel lining. Most will complain when lots of stickers are involved, but I would have wanted more to fill in large sections of black. The pictures of my model include what you’re going to get with panel lining and stickers mostly applied.FINISHED PRODUCTWhen completed, the HGBD Gundam Shining Break is a solid figure with only one area of looseness around the hips. Aside from that, you’re getting almost exactly what you see in the Amazon product pictures. You have a sleek Gundam model around the same size as any other HG kit out there. As stated before, there’s not one particular aspect of this design which gives it a “wow” factor. That fact doesn’t truly degrade from the finished product though. What you see is what you get, and you’ll have a good time posing this model alongside your other ones. There is a transformation gimmick with this kit, but the process is hardly worth noting. While quick and straightforward, the end result of transforming is kind of lame. From personal experience, I hardly ever display my transformable Gundams in their flying mode. One other thing to note is that the backpack is a single-peg connection. Lots of more modern models have a double-peg connection point on them.ADDED BONUSESYou get a LOT of extra parts to play around with! There is a substantial amount of leftover pieces from the Shining Gundam combined with some duplicate parts newly made for the Gundam Shining Break. For those that are all about customizing their Gundam models, you can’t ask for much else out of a kit (except for a double-peg backpack connection.)VERDICTThe HGBD Gundam Shining Break is a great kit for beginners and experts alike. To the new builders, there is a bit more work to be done than usual in order to have an exact replica of pictures. To more experienced model makers, there is a lot of potential for creative and cool customizations and kitbashes. If you’re in the mood for a simple, satisfying, sharp looking Gundam model, you will definitely enjoy the HGBD Gundam Shining Break.

ベースになったシャイニングガンダムが、比較的最近のキットなのでプロポーションも可動も良好です。足首が延長されたので、かなりスマートな印象になりました。でかいライフル＆シールドもハッタリが効いていてカッコいいです。何故か残余パーツがエライことになってます(笑)本機用のＡランナー２枚に、かなりの重複パーツが…整形色(イエローとクリアグリーン)を気にしなければ、頭部・胸～腹部・ビームライフル・(翼無しの)シールドが出来てしまいます。流用パーツＢランナー２枚ベース機では1枚は半分にカットされてるのに、コイツは丸々フルサイズが２枚です。前腕・脛部・腰アーマーが余分に、もう１セットあります。

優秀な稼働域に加え、改造に使えそうな余剰パーツの宝庫です。ポリキャップを用意したり、自分で色を塗ったりする必要はありますが、頭、胴体は２つずつ組めます。腰アーマーも選択可能で、ライフルもスペアでもう一丁作れますし、盾も同様（ただし、ウイングは１枚分しかないので、２枚使ってシンメトリーにしたい人は、肩翼の盾を２枚作って、それをベースに変形などを考慮する必要あり）。背中のバックパックがシンプル過ぎる気がしますが、１穴なので、各種ストライカーパック等を換装でき、初心者でもお手軽にオリジナルガンダムを作ることができる優秀なキットです。勿論、多数のパーツがあることを生かして、他のガンプラの改造パーツ取り用に購入するもありでしょう。

外伝のファンなら押さえておきたい外伝の主人公機！シャイニングガンダムを長所を捨ててスタンダードなガンダムに変えて格闘型の可動域を利用して変形機能を与えたガンプラと言う設定が新しい！正にシャイニングガンダムをブレイクしたと言う名前に相応しいガンプラでしたね（褒め言葉）

作ってて楽しいキットです。余剰パーツも豊富に有りオラガンプラ作りには最高です。
