Are the controllers compatible with the Japanese version and vice versa?

Yes there are, infact I have the Japanese console but the International edition controllers. But I had to refund everything, massive SNK fan and have my original ARS(cart) and CDZ consoles, bought the mini just to show support for SNK really but I they changed the layout and the function of the buttons if you look on Instagram the picture I uploade four days ago you’ll see what I mean @mattyjjenkins changing the layout is unforgivable, bought the original in 1994, so 24years of muscle memory for nothing, please take a look!

I have heard that this control pad is not micro switched like the neo geo original and is a poor quality reproduction. Is this true?

Does not work with PCs or other USB-C devices

Just to confirm having tried it myself, these controllers only work with the Neo Geo mini. They do not work in other USB-C devices like PCs, Macs, Android phones etc. There must be something built in to prevent it being recognised as a standard USB controller. I don't understand why they did this, it would have sold loads more if it could be used with other devices as it's a decent controller.
