Functionally minimalist for Win8, MCE works, Slow Shipping
I ordered this remote for use with a Win8 HTPC and after reading some websites thought that it would be the best thing going to get me browsing around my computer while surfing the couch. It took a little longer than I expected to start the shipping process and so I didn't receive it for a few days after I expected. That's where one of the stars went. When ordering from Amazon, expediency in shipping is something I've come to expect.I was happy to see a "Windows 8" compliant logo on the box as I was opening it but in truth, it's kind of half-assed. I made the registry change required to get the green button to open the Start screen instead of MCE and it works but I've noticed that it's a little sluggish. You push a button and wait for the computer to respond. This is especially annoying when working with the volume. Holding the vol up button doesn't slowly and incrementally increase volume. It seems to cache a bunch of vol up commands and applies them as if they were queued. In other words, the volume goes up to crazy levels unless you press it once, wait, press again, wait, rinse, repeat. Also, and this isn't a defect of the product but a warning to those who follow, the remote does not function within all parts of the Apps in Windows 8. For instance, you can open the Netflix App but you can't select a video to continue watching. It works in part of the app but not in others. All functions within MCE seem to work though so all in all, it's functional. It just didn't get rid of daily mouse and keyboard use on the HTPC as I had hoped for.I hope to delve into it a little more and maybe remap some of the functions to do things like tab and shift-tab to make it more functional in the apps. We'll see.

December 2020 update
As of December, 2020:I have many recordings. Microsoft Windows Media Center was discontinued, years ago. With only a slight modification to the system, i can use the green button to launch Kodi. I needed, an obscure, third party app, and also a common hotkey app.I have been using this type of setup, for years. All of the features work just fine. This remote resembles the original Green Button Remote that was available on amazon. That is where the similarities end. instead of using an infared receiver that is recognized by windows, or even a third-party dll file, the receiver that comes with this remote will not relay your key presses to your computer unless a software named PowerConfig.exe (included and available online) is running as its intermediary. This would all be fine, in theory, but if you plan on using this to control media center--- it is unresponsive, even after repeatedly pressing a button. i end up scrolling past, turning up/down too far, or going too far using the back button,,, because by the time the key presses are recognized, it ends up sending all of them all at once. The receiver is poorly designed, as well... it also will not work with any other usb infared receiver.I am using this on a high end computer with windows 8.1 Pro with media center and Powerconfig.exe running from a Samsung 840 evo. FYI an in-depth kaspersky full scan of 6 Terabytes on two separate Hard Disk Drives with Steam Library, Origin Library, and all of my software can be done in less than 40 minutes... seems like it takes that long to get this soon-to-be piece of garbage remote to work.I will be buying another remote to replace this....my advice, either buy the original green button remote, or spend some extra money on a better functioning remote. it does not have a dedicated netflix button, as the description says; instead, you can set the PowerConfig.exe software to launch(?) Netflix at the press of the media center button. I did not test this feature because, when i want to use netflix, I use the media center netflix plugin app....Jesus is alive.

Good MCE Remote
Why did i give it 4 stars? Because i found the buttons configurations annoying, i think the number keys should of been at the top and not the bottom because i use them more offten than the pause, play, stop keys. What did i like about it? The fact that it worked right out the box,no installation needed. Am using Win 7 and have a (Hauppauge 1196 WinTV Tuner) and that remote for the tuner never worked from day one,the software for the Tuner was crap so i had to turn to MCE which did a much better job with the tuner.Who would i recommend this to? Any and everyone

USB IR Receiver works with Linux, XBMC & OpenELEC
Cons:You will absolutely be UN happy with this remote at $29.I bought it for the USB IR receiver and it works as it should. At $14 and free shipping it was a fair deal but the remote stays in the box. The buttons are tiny and dont seem to be placed well. The remote is too wide for a normal hand to be comfortable.Pros:The IR USB receiver is small and comes with an extension cable if plugging it into the front of the USB port is insufficient. In Linux and Openelec the receiver is picked up as /dev/lirc0 and does exactly what it's supposed to do.See the XBMC Linux forums on "How To Use Any IR Remote In The House" to get a IR remote going. That being said the remote is advertised as an MCE remote so the remote part of it should work out of the box.Under $15 and free shipping? Its a good deal.

Works great
This is the second remote I've tried for my HTPC. And I have to say, this one is a lot better than the one I had before. The range is significantly better and it feels a lot more solid than my previous remote.I use it with a Windows 7 PC running XBMC. Works out of the box and I am very pleased with it. My only gripe is that the buttons are a bit smaller than I would like.

Pretty good PC remote
Overall I like the remote and it works fine. I wish it was a bit larger as it doesn't quite fit my hand well. The direction pad/OK button is a bit cramped as well due to this.

True MCE Remote
Exactly as described, true MCE remote and IR USB receiver supporting RC6 protocol. I'm using it with MythTV on Ubuntu Linux, worked out of the box. Only real issue is that the buttons are mostly pretty small and hard to tell apart easily.
