Nice scroll saw but need to get used to it
I love my new scroll saw but will have to get used to it. I'm not sure if I will like the hold down shoe as it seems so large, but maybe that will help stop chattering. The plastic guard I may take off as it is some thing that I may not get used to but I can see the reasoning for having it. I did find it hard to change from pin end to none pin end, but I had the darn things in wrong and I found it so much easier to tilt the table to see the lower hook and I got the blade in with no problem after a couple of tries and now I can do it. I did a few random cuts using the Flying Dutchman blades and found they cut very nice and got nice smooth cuts. The saw is loud and sounds like my sister's ride on mower, but I'll get used to that in good time once I make some beautiful things on it. I had no vibration with this machine except for the first few test runs. I tightened a few screws and the like then would test again and tighten again and then no more vibration. I don't have it bolted down either. The Dremel Moto saw was too small for the things I want to do, but that is a nice saw for small projects and I have made beautiful things on that saw. I personally want to thank Amazon for helping to get the shipping problem straightened out and I'm a happy camper now that I actually have my new saw. Amazon is wonderful, they do try to help iron things out when there is a problem and I've never had any problems with the shipping until I ordered this saw. I had a guaranteed delivery date and it was late, but all is well now and will continue to shop Amazon and stay a Prime member. Thank you every one at Amazon. Fay There is an update. Have to ship it back because the tension knob would not stay put as it kept going counter clockwise loosening the tension on the blades and kept throwing things off the machine. So there is some thing wrong with it and it should not sound like a ride on mower. I did not get any projects cut out as blades kept breaking. They will be sending me another saw. I was so tickled when I got this saw but too quick to say any thing with out cutting out any projects so only got to set it up and do a couple of test cuts and that is all before it started acting up so packed it up the next morning.

A decent scroll saw
I bought this saw primarily to cut soft woods (pine, basswood, and fir) and some plastics. I'd say this saw is a worthwhile purchase for the home hobbyist that doesn't need or expect a commercial shop quality scroll saw (which I've had the opportunity to use). It works reasonably well for the price. It does vibrate somewhat at some of the speeds within its variable range, but it's controllable and not excessive. I would definitely recommend buying some good quality saw blades. I am currently using Olson blades and they work very well. This saw seems to prefer fine toothed blades. I use 18 and 25 TPI blades. 10 and 15 TPI blades work but cause a bit more chatter and vibration. This saw is made in China and the quality control is not great so it does need some fine tuning. I recommend checking all the fasteners as I found several that were loose when it arrived. I made a custom shim for the front table pivot mount to make it more solid. I also re-worked the mounting hardware for the pressure/guide foot to make it more stable.PROS:Only one plastic piece on the saw. All others are steel, cast iron, or cast aluminum.Fairly light and compact.Quiet.Blade changes are quick and easy when you use pinned blades.Work light is well placed and provides good light.CONS:Quality is just OK. Not sure how long it will hold up.The bellows air pump is a little weak. The mounting hardware for the guide foot is a little sloppy.

No Setup Instruction/user manual included
I just received the Fox W1713, the saw was double boxed, however the outer box was mashed in and the inner box had holes punched in it from the inside out. I don't know where the holes came from as the saw was completely encased in unbroken/intact styrofoam. However, the box has been previously opened and retaped as there were 2 layers of tape on the saw box. After unpacking and looking everywhere, in BOTH boxes, I was unable to find any instructions on setup and/or adjustments, even though the label on the side of the saw, stated I needed to follow instructions in the operator/user manual! The unit does not look used or abused, just opened for whatever reason and user manual was gone. ----UPDATE----I've been using this saw for a few days, I have found;1. It cuts 1" green (very sappy) Southern Yellow Pine, Maple and Oak easily.2. Does not vibrate as stated in other reviews, mine's not even bolted down on the work bench.3. Easy blade changes4. Makes very straight cuts and makes very tight rounded corners without having to make relief cuts.5. Has sufficient power to cut hard woods running at any speed, it will lug slightly if you force the saw to cut too fast for the blade speed, you can lug down just about any saw if it's fed too fast. I could not have purchased a better saw for my use, I have a buddy using a more expensive saw than mine and he is amazed by how well this scroll saw handles ANY cut he tried.EXCELLENT SCROLL SAW

Great value!
I bought this saw for a large sign project and I think it's a great little scroll saw. I was only cutting 1/2" poplar for letters, but the saw went right through it without any complaints and made some pretty tight turns as well. The blade is quite simple to change although undoing the tension to release the blade and then tightening it back up gets tiresome on letters like A, B and O. The only complaint I have is that the light burned out within a few hours of on & off switching. Not a big problem and doesn't affect my opinion in the slightest. The table is cast iron and smooth as glass - really nice for controlled turns. Actually, most of the saw is cast iron, so I expect it to last a long time. The motor is conveniently located for any servicing and the dust port in front is easy to access. Variable speed motor is nice, too. I would not hesitate to recommend this saw to anyone.

A great buy.
This is my first scroll saw so I don’t have anything to compare it to but it does an incredible job. The one down side is the plastic protective shield sometimes comes loose and the knob has to be retightened. A minor irritation for an otherwise great machine.
