Pure Encapsulations DHEA 5 mg, 60 Capsules

Miraculous. I have suffered from treatment resistant depression for 35 years. After getting a prophylactic bilateral oophorectomy 10 yrs ago for breast cancer risk I have been on different medications to handle my depression and nothing has helped. I finally decided that to try HRT in the hope that it might help. I figured, instead of going to a dr for it, I would try a small dose of dhea just to see if it might improve my symptoms before I went the traditional route. My first dose was life changing. However, 5mg is like 10 times more than you need. I assume women need a much lower dose because I felt so anxious and angry when I took the whole tablet. So now I dump out most of the contents so that there is only 1/10 left and put the capsule back on. I only need to take it 1x a month and was able to reduce my antidepressant by 3/4. I feel so much better. My energy is back and I am drawing and painting again. I really hope the company adds a low dose capsule because this is the best option for women like me.

Works great

I tried to get pregnant for a total of four years. In that time I've been treated by three different fertility specialists (reproductive endocrinologists). I've been diagnosed with unexplained infertility and later with endometriosis. I've had several IUIs and even did a round of IVF that didn't go very well. I love to read through research and had tried just about every supplement that had even a tiny bit of scientific evidence for helping with fertility: CoQ10 and other anti-oxidants, melatonin, N-acetyl cysteine, myo-inositol. I spent years taking these with no luck. I had read the research on DHEA by Dr. Gleicher and colleagues at the Center for Human Reproduction. I had also read some horror stories online from women who said they tried DHEA and had bad side effects (horrible acne and hair loss) or experienced disrupted menstrual cycles, so for a long time I was afraid to try it. But after our bummer of an IVF cycle, I decided I wanted to do everything I could to make our next try go better. I asked my RE to test my DHEA-S and other androgen levels, but he said they weren't important and didn't want to bother. Since I didn't know my levels, I decided to start taking DHEA at the lowest dose I could find (this 5 mg capsule) instead of the 25 to 75 mg a day usually recommended for fertility. I planned to take it for about 6 weeks before and during my next scheduled IVF cycle. I never made it to my next round of IVF because I became pregnant naturally during my first month taking 5 mg a day! After FOUR YEARS! It's still very early in the pregnancy but we just saw a heartbeat on the ultrasound this week. I did have a few tiny pimples when I first started taking it and shed a few more hairs than usual, but neither was a huge deal. I also noticed that I ovulated two days later than usual the cycle I was taking it (but obviously that wasn't a bad thing). If you've been considering trying DHEA for fertility, please give it a shot. You can always start with a low dose, and if you have any unwanted side effects, you can cut back further. It definitely made all the difference for me and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Really good product and such a helpful substance for aging adults that dont make growth hormone but still needed. I can always tell a difference when I run out. I take 5mgs a day and am 66.

I really wanted this to work because I’m a huge fan of Pure Encapsulations. They are honestly one of the only brands I trust for clean ingredients without all the "junk" fillers, and the quality of these 5mg capsules is definitely top-tier. However, I had to stop taking these after a short trial, and I wanted to share a quick warning for anyone else who might be sensitive to androgens. Even though 5mg is a super low dose, it was enough to trigger some pretty frustrating side effects for me. Within a week, I noticed My skin started getting really oily/breakout. I felt way more irritable and "snappy" than usual. It turns out my body is just very sensitive to the way DHEA converts to other hormones. It’s a bummer because the product itself is excellent, but if you have a history of PCOS, hormonal acne, or just general androgen sensitivity, please start slow and maybe talk to your doctor first! My doctor told me take DHEA. I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference, not really sure why I take it. I take 1 in the AM and 1 in the PM. Crazy to swallow. I actually had to start taking magnesium to help with sleep I gave it 5 stars because I can’t say it doesn’t work. I have a very hard time taking things, very fast metabolism
