Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk3 DJ Controller, Black (25421)

I originally got this as sort of a backup/portable version of the S4MK3 I could use at home to do preparation and recording mini-mixes. I was not disappointed. The hardware build quality is great and it adpots a lot of features from its big brother while still being lightweight. I've used it on the road, when traveling, and even in one of the biggest clubs in Houston with no problems whatsoever. The jogs feel nice and have a good size to them. The crossfader could be better but I've been spoiled with the Z2 and S4MK3, and it does the job fine, even for some more advanced scratching routines. Output routing was a bit disappointing as there are no XLR/TRS outputs, but some small adaptors did the trick (RCA to XLR was crucial). The lack of FX control was a bit controversial, but to me it helped keep the size down, and I mapped Shift+knobs to control the dry/wet and an FX parameter like on the Z2. Once again, the hardware quality is amazing and way beyond what else you see in this class. Bottom line, this is a great controller at a great value, and has excellent build quality and a lot of cool features (the new mixer FX in particular is great). I would not hesitate to pick this up and I wish I had much sooner. As a Traktor user of 6+ years, I can't recommend this enough, even to owners of the S4MK3.

Suited my needs perfectly as a beginner. Certainly had to do some research to get things going, but that’s to be expected with any new hobby or instrument. Been having a lot of fun with it and the quality is fantastic.

0/5 if I could. I took a chance buying this unit, I wanted it be good! I read all the negative issues on the Native Instrument help forums and thought, "an update or two and this unit will be solid." 2 Months and 7 days is how long mine lasted. I run an internet radio show and this device is my livelihood - I cannot stress enough, AVOID THIS PRODUCT. Go with something proven, something solid. Once Native Instruments replaces this unit, I'm buying something better, something Pioneer. This week's show, and the forseeable future, is cancelled because of this device, so if you must depend on your equipment, DO NOT DEPEND ON THIS DEVICE - YOU CANNOT DEPEND ON THIS DEVICE. You have been fairly warned! EDIT: I spent almost a week chasing down their support to help me and they never did. Thanks, Amazon, for refunding my money - When you call Native Instruments support it will say, "We are no longer providing phone support - use the Chat feature on the website." THERE IS NO CHAT FEATURE! Good luck getting anyone to care about your issue, this is the absolutely WORST experience with any piece of hardware or any company's support - I can't recommend anything Native Instruments.

The controller just arrived today but I’m already loving it. Where do I start? First, it comes with a full version of Traktor Pro 3. I don’t know if you’ve priced software lately but I paid $100 for Virtual DJ for a smaller inexpensive controller I own. Second, it’s ipad compatible. I use my MacBook but nice to know this is an option. Finally, set up was a breeze. You just long into their site and it takes your step by step. Overall, I like what I see so far. The deck allows you to easily use all the common features in Traktor’s all new software. The platters are nice and large and the knobs and sliders feel sturdy and easy to access. The only issues I have (they are minor) it only has one mic output, just RCA and no XLR for speakers and it’s not great for scratching (not that I need that but maybe you do). Overall, I’m pleased with my purchase and can’t wait to use it this weekend for a gig. Who is this suitable for? I would say a beginner or intermediate DJ who wants flexibility and may need to travel (it’s lightweight and easy to carry). Also, someone who doesn’t need 4 decks and more auxiliary inputs. There are more complex and robust controllers on the market but this has everything I need. Great job!

I love it much more than the Mk3 S4 that I used. Good earphones plug, easy connect to internet. Only minus is I must use an external audio device in order to use the MK3 S2 but it was like that with the previous as well. Love it!

Not the cheapest option on the market and the build quality feels a little on the light side (i.e. cheap) but the bundled software makes up for it (especially if you use a DAW).

This thing is awesome and super fun. Native instruments is definitely a top audio equipment brand and this is an awesome product. Traktor DJ (their DJ software) is an amazing and very easy to understand program too. I used this for a while and sold it but now I’m honestly wishing I had it again. I’d say this is best for beginner DJs or just playing around with. You could definitely do some gigs with this if you’re pretty new to the DJ scene, but as you learn more and develop your skills, you’ll want to move up to a more capable unit. For the price though, I can recommend this all day long. Especially since it comes with the full version of their software. Also you can use it with their iOS app if you have the right cable.

Don't buy it, the serial is already being used by someone else therefore you will have to pay for traktor which is $175. Bad deal

Lange habe ich mit dem Kauf des S2 MK3 gewartet, denn in den unzähligen Reviews war von totaler Begeisterung bis hin zum vernichtenden Urteil alles zu lesen. Ich bin nun jedenfalls begeistert und froh, mir das gute Stück gekauft zu haben. Wie es anderen ergeht hängt dabei schwer von den Anforderungen und Vorlieben ab. Daher zum Verständnis vielleicht kurz ein paar Worte zu mir: Ich hab vor ca. 25 Jahren mit zwei Technics Turntables und nem Reloop Mixer begonnen, letzteren bald durch einen Ecler Nuo 3 ersetzt, zwischendurch mal Pioneer CDJs genutzt und bin irgendwann auf Traktor Scratch mit meinem Ecler Mixer, den Technics Turntables und Timecode-Vinyls gewechselt. Im Club wurde dann genutzt was auch immer da rumstand. Musikalisch lege ich vorrangig Deep- und Techhouse auf, mehr als zwei Decks wurden dabei nur seltenst benötigt und Effekte so gut wie gar nicht genutzt. Bin da eher Oldschool unterwegs. Den Controller benötige ich auch nur für meine heimische Kellerbar oder eine gelegentliche Party - das Auflegen ist inzwischen eigentlich nur noch ein Hobby aus Liebe zur Musik und dem Mixen. Der Traktor S2 MK3 sah zunächst einmal schick aus und sollte theoretisch schon ein vielfaches dessen bieten, was ich beim Auflegen so benötige. Was mich abschreckte waren Rezensionen / Reviews, welche von "Einsteigergerät" und/oder schlecht verarbeitetem "Plastik-Spielzeug" sprachen. Was mich zudem stutzig machte waren die kurzen Pitch-Fader sowie die kurzen Channel-Meter, ob damit ein präzises Arbeiten möglich ist? Nun gut, bestellt, ausgepackt, angeklemmt und einfach mal losgelegt: Optisch sieht der Controller zunächst mal wirklich schick, übersichtlich und gut durchdacht aus. Man findet sich schnell zurecht und kann sich durch Rumprobieren das meiste erarbeiten. An der Haptik habe ich persönlich auch nichts zu bemängeln. Alles fühlt sich hochwertig und gut verarbeitet an, nirgends wackelt oder klappert es. Auch die oft beschriebenen, "schwergängigen" Channel-Fader empfinde ich nicht als schlimm sondern eher als Vorteil, sie ermöglichen mehr Präzision. Ich kann jedoch verstehen, dass man sie je nach Mixtechnik als zu schwergängig empfindet - ist aber letztendlich auch nur eine Frage der Gewöhnung. Für den Preis von 285,- hat mich die Qualität jedenfalls wirklich positiv überrascht! Die Benutzung des S2 MK3 macht dann einfach nur Spaß. Schon im Standard ist das Auflegen eine wahre Freude und geht super von der Hand. Die Tracks lassen sich trotz kurzen Pitch-Fadern sehr präzise einpitchen, das Jogwheel fühlt sich super an und reagiert sehr genau auf jeden Griff. Auch sonst - Potis, Cue-Section, Klang - alles dufte. Die kurzen Channel-Meter sowie die fehlende Master-Section sind zwar erstmal schade, lassen sich aber ja ebenso gut in der Traktor-Software ablesen. Stört mich also nicht weiter. Dennoch habe ich den einen oder anderen Punkt zur Klage, dies jedoch auf absolut hohem Niveau: 1. Die Anordnung. Gespiegelte Decks, so wie es wohl in früheren Modellen war, hätten mir persönlich besser gefallen. Also Pitch-Fader der beiden Decks jeweils außen, Play- und Cue-Buttons innen. Man hat am linken Deck leider schnell mal den Channel-Fader bedient obwohl man eigentlich am Pitch justieren wollte. 2. Die Cue- und Play-Buttons. Sie sind zwar hochwertig und schick, leider aber sehr laut. Das wird auf der lauten Party keiner Wahrnehmen, in leiser Umgebung kann das aber durchaus stören. Beides kein Drama und wäre auch bei den größeren S3 und S4 der Fall, aber man will ja auch nicht nur loben. Für den zweiten Punkt gibt es aber einen Workaround: Beschäftigt man sich etwas mehr mit der Materie so stellt man fest, dass man den Controller noch üppig in der Traktor-Software konfigurieren kann. Egal ob Fadercurven, Tastenfunktion oder auch Beleuchtung - es lässt sich so ziemlich alles nach Gusto einstellen. Und so habe ich erstmal den Crossfader ausgeschaltet und ein paar der eh kaum von mir genutzten und angenehm leisen Pad-Tasten je Kanal mit einem Bass-Kill-Switch sowie zusätzlichen Cue- und Play-Tasten samt passender Beleuchtung belegt. So macht's gleich mehr Laune... Unter'm Strich bin ich absolut zufrieden und wirklich begeistert vom S2 MK3. Die Verarbeitung ist tadellos, das Layout übersichtlich, die Bedienung angenehm und präzise und den Möglichkeiten sind dank Konfigurationsmöglichkeit kaum Grenzen gesetzt. Ich bin froh, mich für das kleine Modell entschieden und nicht (von schlechten Rezensionen motiviert) Geld für die großen ausgegeben zu haben.

Si ya tienes otros productos de Native Instruments, esta es tu mejor opción de cara a pinchar música en casa o en cualquier local por un precio asequible. En caso de no tenerlo...pues otras opciones como Pioneer o Denon son igualmente válidas, cada una con su software. - Incluye a la versión Traktor Pro 3, que si ya tienes el Pro 2 pueden convivir sin ningún problema en tu PC ya sea windows o MacBook (probado en ambos). Metes el número de serie de tu S2 MK3 y te aparecerán los números del software Pro 3 y Tracktor Dj (un programa más sencillo para hacer tus mezclas). - NO INCLUYE ADAPTADOR ¡porque no es necesario! Conectas tu PC a la corriente, pones el USB de la controladora y la tienes 100% funcional. - La detección por parte del software es inmediata. La detectará y te dirá que si quieres modificar la configuración del programa para que se ajuste a la controladora. Aceptas y todo listo.

The best entry-level controller comes with the software perfect price range, and good packaging, the only down side is that it doesn't have effect knobs but all entry-level DJ controllers don't have FX knobs. Been using it for over a month and I can say the best investment ever.

Prodotto solido, compatto e ben costruito, uno standard! Penso che rappresenti uno standard per il mondo dei controller da DJ, in termini di Affidabilità e semplicità d'utilizzo. Ad oggi (Dicembre 2018), viene fornito con la versione completa di Traktor 3 da scaricare. Il vantaggio dei prodotti "Ufficiali della casa" è che rispetto ad altri controller di altre marche come al solito la configurazione è immediata anche per i neofiti, grazie al "Setup wizard" presente nel Software. Usato solo su macchine Apple (un MacBook 2011 e un Mac mini 2014 - Os Mojave) Funziona perfettamente. È presente una porta per dispositivi IOS che PER IL MOMENTO non è sfruttabile in quanto il controller NON È COMPATIBILE con la versione attuale di Traktor per iPad e iPhone ; tuttavia sul sito della NI dichiarano di essere già al lavoro e promettono un aggiornamento a breve... Per il resto la configurazione base prevede 4 Deck, due standard e due Remix, nuovo "Mixer Fx" che va a "sostituire" (sono ancora presenti ma non controllabili via controller) i quattro pomelli per gli effetti presenti invece nella versione MkII. Le Jog Wheels sono di dimensioni maggiori rispetto all'MKII e hanno un ottimo tocco, ottima anche la possibilità di triggerare i loop o i sample grazie agli otto pad switchabili, da Cue Points delle deck 1-2 a trigger delle deck 3-4, (8 cue points o 4 sample-loops + 4 mute on/off), è presente anche un volume che unisce i due volume fader delle deck 3-4 e ne controlla il volume generale. Penso sia tutto, unica "pecca" i due Pitch Fader che sono veramente un pò troppo piccoli, ma ci si farà l'abitudine. Personalmente gli ho affiancato la mia vecchia Z1 per controllare le deck 3-4 e poterle controllare meglio, se avete già altri prodotti NI ottima anche questa possibilità di integrare altri controller. 5 Stelle senza esitazioni!
