I must say first as to the ratings I read, that some really innane stuff is written especially the with the one star beauties. I am a retired 77 year old who works on his own mountain property of 8 acres using every conceivable tool to make this place look like a well maintained park found this grass whipping tool very sturdy, well designed and balanced, properly weighted and IS a sharp instrument. This is actually the best scythe I’ve seen yet. So yes this is highly recommended. Don’t listen to the bologna guys.

This was handy to clear out some tall grass that was hard to reach with a mower. It's sharp, but not meant to be razor sharp. It seems like it would be easy to sharpen if you wanted it sharper, but it works well as is.

Light weight, easy to use non electrical option for cutting the weeds in my burned out neighborhood. I do wish the blade was a little sharper to cut easier without multiple whacks. Also, if you are looking to cut dry grass, this may not be a good option. Took a lot more effort, repeated whacks, to try and cut the dry, over grown grass. This is one of my new favorite tools though since it works well for what I needed most to improve the look of our neighborhood.

This weed Wacker is definitely a great device making cutting down weeds a snap. Only improvement i would recommend is a longer handle- not necessary but would save effort. I previously owned one of these and somehow lost track of it. This is a hard to find item. After looking for one at many stores and not finding one found this one on amazon. It's a relative inexpensive tool that you'll definitely use. We'll worth the money.

This thing took a pretty thorough amount of sharpening to make it actually usable and even then it doesn't really cut a good few of the types of grass in my yard. It's good if you just need to edge something but don't expect to cut any large amount grass also the handle is a smooth cylinder which both makes it difficult to hold on to once your hands start cramping from using it and makes it difficult to keep aligned if your hands start to get sweaty. If you're over 6ft then it's really difficult to use this thing without straining your back from all of the bending down you'll be doing just to make this thing touch the grass.

Gives your arms a nice workout once you get the hang of swinging it.

This tool is so dull that it doesn't cut grass at all. The "blade" is not sharp in any way and has a coating that dulls the edge further. I tried to use this on my small front lawn in an urban rowhouse neighborhood. It did not cut the grass at all, but just flattened it down and crushed / bruised the stems instead of making a clean cut. It would need to be sharpened using a file, a painstaking task that would take hours. This seems to be done to keep users from getting cut. What ever happened to learning to treat tools with respect and teaching and supervising your children in the safe use of sharp tools? I had a grass whip of similar design as a teen in the 1970s that cut grass like a hot knife through butter. My father taught me how to use the tool safely. If I had *that* tool today, I'd have finished trimming my small front lawn in minutes. Instead, I had to use a pair of hedge shears (with actual sharp blades) to finish the job. When you dumb down tools in the name of safety, they don't work and are actually more dangerous. Let the kids climb trees and learn how to use tools that *work*. This item belongs on the trash heap.

Ah - a little bit of nostalgia included with each purchase. I remembered it in my parents tool shed and thought I have to have one as well. It’s very effective at cutting smaller areas of overgrowth that may include blackberry vines and something similar, but it certainly isn’t a replacement for a weedeater. That said, it’s of obviously good quality, just the right weight for a good swing yet not so heavy that you can’t swing it with just one hand and a gentle swinging motion. You certainly wouldn’t want to be doing large areas because it is simply too time consuming.

This tool is great for cutting down long grass in ditches and other areas when you don't want to bother starting up the weed eater. You need room for a swing so it doesn't work well in confined spaces.

Easy to use but not for tall grass and very flimsy
