Very slick unit - looks and works great
I got this for my girlfriends new (to her) Mercedes SLK along with a fitting kit, fascia and interface cables from incartec.I took a bit of a flier as this appears to be a new product and there are no reviews, but I am delighted with how it looks in the car (it looks totally factory fit) and just how well it works with Apple Carplay. Start up time is very fast indeed - switch on the ignition and it's on straightaway. Response is very fast. Sound quality seems to me very good indeed and plenty powerful enough (especially in such a small cabin). Spotify, Audible books etc all good, you can also use Apple Maps, google maps and Waze which is a much better system that most built in satnavs I have seen, all without the expense of updates.I also got an interface so that the unit would work with the steering wheel controls, as well as an amplified splitter for £12.99 (not the expensive Sony dedicated dab aerial) so that the DAB would use the same aerial as the normal one.All in all it's excellent - one of the best purchases I've made.

Great upgrade to give modern car features like android auto and reserveing camera
Nice unit really love having the ability to use android auto in the car with the usb cable which will also charge the cable. Touch screen is ok but takes a little bit to get use to it as it's a captive touch screen with first smart phones came with. unit makes my car speakers sound better than with the stock unit

Good but not perfect
I bought this car stereo because it was pretty much the only Android auto device that has Semi-single-DIN design and fits my '96 Mercedes Sprinter Motorhome. Fitting was fairly easy-having in mind that I converted the aperture to double DIN using a Dremel rotary tool. There is bigger gap than needed at the pottom, as you may see on the picture, but it is pretty ok.What I don't like about the device is its resistive single-touch screen. It is pretty sensitive for a single touch, but still quite old school. The resolution is not great either. Another thing that seems inadequate is the Phonebook (when using Bluetooth, not Android Auto) - the contacts are scrambled and it is absolutely impossible to find anyone while driving. Searching by letter gives you the same random contact starting with the given letter. There are quick dial presets that I cannot figure out how to assign. Iread the manual-nothing there. No SD card reader. The price is steep for a 2yo model, and Sony doesn't have anything much better at the moment. What I like-AA works very well. It loads quickly after pluging a phone into tbe USB and in my case automatically loads Waze. Google assistant works well, too and is similar to the stock voice commands I have on my SUV. The AA phonebook works like a charm, because it is your phone's phonebook, actually. I was able to install a firmware update from the beginning of 2020-hopefully support will continue to provide regular updates.

Works very well. Auto android is great.
Sounds lovely when you crank it up. Auto android works perfectly. For the price of this I would have liked its own sat Nav but as Google maps and Waze both work through android it's not a problem. Simple design means you can figure anything out fairly easy without instructions.

Disappointing screen and phonebook
A couple of points have really spoiled this for me... First, the screen is resistive, not capacative, so gestures are limited to tapping and swiping (no two-finger zoom in maps, for instance - very annoying if you're used to phone maps!). As another reviewer mentioned, they've removed the ability to set a custom wallpaper too, and screen is quite shiny, so not great if you happen to get a reflection from the rear windscreen.Apple integration is fine if you're happy to use siri for everything. If not, screen input is awkwaard. If you don't want to plug in and just use bluetooth for calls, it doesn't transfer phone contacts until you select the address book option, and then takes ages to load up - this is a real pain. Remote integration is ok, but you can't have the same button assigned to two funtions (e.g. for accept/reject call)Digital radio reception leaves a lot to be desired. I found that this unti does not maintain a quality sound if reception is poor, but crackles and sputters in a digital way - others I've used in the past would either be high quality or no signal at all - I prefer that to the crackling. This might be due to my having a poor quality DAB antenna - I don't know so have not marked it down for this. All in all, it's OK and reasonably priced, but I would have hoped for more from Sony.

Replaced a Kenwood £200 unit I bought 18 months ago.
This is such a step up from the cheaper two hundred quid thing I bought and was never happy with. The android auto is worth the extra cost alone. The other thing I would draw attention to is the sound quality and volume you get out of it, connect it to your amp and sub and you wont be disappointed, the sound is so clear and punchy. The best thing for me is that its uncomplicated, its so simple to use and it just works.

Very Basic - Near terrible.
i have not installed it yet, just messing around before install. So far usb flash must be under 32GB i believe this could apply to phone storage too. Does not connect to usb hub. Being a 2018 product, you would have thought it would connect to usb hub. Also as others have said no password protect or anything. No DVD/CD . So far very basic for £320. Lets hope the sound quality is good. Update after X amount of months... Updated review...Screen has floppy plastic, horrible to touch, LCD dimmer settings are either too bright or too full, need your side lights on for a full grey day, good luck viewing the screen because the screen is so bright at night there is no setting suitable for comfortable night driving and dull days. The POS seems to always disconnect approaching roundabouts. Going to reduce the length of my USB cable attached to it as I think this is part of the problem. Punched the c*** today from rage at another disconnect, still works but I'm more qualified to shorten the cable and say f*** the warranty. All that is to like is the size of this stereo. Master internal volume settings are way too high, finding it distorts more than adequate alpine speakers around 40%. Recommended - NO. Shame on Sony releasing such a POS.
