Excellent book once you master the basics.
I have many books on Bonsai. This book is really excellent once you have mastered the basics. It is clear and very well illustrated.I have been growing Bonsai trees since 1972 after finding a damaged sapling Sloe tree. Please remember , just like us , they need feeding. The soil they are in will only last about 1--2 months. Oh and daily watering, but not in bright sun.Good fertilizers are Chempak.

fancy techniques but good techniques honestly
Most books on bonsai in the English language have been written by authors that have had little or no formal training in the art. Finally a book by someone who knows what he is talking about. Although this book is aimed at people new to bonsai, it also has enough in it to interest a seasoned bonsai grower whilst correcting mis-information from earlier publications. The techniques shown are clear and concise, the photography is what you would expect from a DK book and the writing style is detailed without being overly heavy and complicated. The tree material used in the "creating your own bonsai" section is readily available to all and although relatively low budget, the techniques are readily transferable to more complicated trees. Bonsai are not created from advanced, fancy techniques but good techniques honestly, thoughtfully and timely applied and this book has this in spades.I hope this book inspires all that look through its pages and turn them on to the enjoyment of bonsai.

A Great Book for Bonsai Enthusiasts
This is an excellent book. Great explanations. Great photos. Highly recommended for any beginning Bonsai enthusiast. I think there may also be some good advice for those who are experienced, as well - though, as I am a novice, I can't say.

Excellent book.
Excellent book for a beginner such as me. List of useful plants for Bonsai is very useful and has growing instructions for all in the list. Also goes through techniques with examples - lots of pictures. Followed the guide to airlayering and have now got visible roots growing. Recommended.

Fabulous book. Has everything you need to know in one volume. From the history, to the different styles. Every single page is filled with great information and very easy to read and follow.
