Great Product. Works best if you shock your well...
Update: November 2020 A home changed hands on our country lane recently, and the new owner had their well water tested. The test shows arsenic levels quite a bit higher than EPA limits. Today I read on the EPA website that shock chlorination of a well can leach arsenic into well water, and should be reserved for severe bacterial contamination in areas with potential arsenic problems. It turns out that I have not had to shock my well this year - it simply hasn't been necessary. I have been dropping 8-10 chlorine pellets into the well every month or so. My plan now is to reduce this chlorination further to test how low I can go, and still avoid iron and sulphur problems. The filter and softener are working perfectly. This certainly qualifies as one of my best purchases ever. My water tastes and smells perfect. Update: January 2020. I had noticed a very slight metallic taste to my water. After some discussion with tech support, it turns out that you are better off not bypassing the filter when you chlorinate your well. Bypassing the softener is necessary though, because chlorine does degrade the softener resin. As discussed before, to control iron and sulfur bacteria, I both shock my well, and use chlorine pellets on a regular basis. About once every month, when I add salt to the softener, I drop pellets down the well. Original Post: I installed this filter along with a new water softener a year ago. My only regret is that I should have bought this years ago! First, some background - we live in northern California and use well water. The water is hard and has high concentrations of iron and hydrogen sulphide. ph is fine. Our old system used a calcite filter and a water softener, but it was ineffective. Iron, sulphur, and manganese were getting through. Symptoms were smelly water, stained porcelain, and black particles clogging the faucet aerators. I got 3 quotes from professional installers, $3900, $5600 and $8400. The spread was a red flag. So I went to a chemical analytics lab and got great advice. First, I was told that iron and hydrogen sulphide are symptoms of infestation by two symbiotic bacteria, and that they can be controlled by shocking the well with chlorine. Second - I was told that It's unlikely that my well is very different from my neighbors' wells, so don't do anything strange or expensive. So I generously chlorinated my well, and after 6 hours ran the sprinklers to clear the chlorine smell from the water. This improved the water quality going into my filters dramatically. After shocking the well like this, the garden hose bib water no longer smells like rotten eggs. This reduces the amount of filtering that the softener plus filter have to do. Most important it prevents the bacterial slime from getting into the filter and softener. Even after shocking the well my water quality was bad. It was time to replace my 20 year old softener and filter. I decided to do it myself, and installed this filter along with a softener from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZNEM8E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Installation was simplified by using sharkbite fittings. The good news is that the system has worked flawlessly over the past year. The water even tastes perfect! Shocking the well: It's time to shock when there is bacterial infestation indicated by brown slime, rust staining, and a rotten eggs smell. *Shock chlorination may leach arsenic into your well water. Avoid drinking well water until leached arsenic has been confirmed to have been flushed from your well.* First bypass the softener (my understanding is that chlorine will damage softener resin). Pour liquid chlorine down the well. I used about a quart of liquid pool chlorine, but a few gallons of household bleach can be used as an alternative. The amount of chlorine to use depends on the volume of water in the well. You may need more chlorine if your well is very deep. I also drop in a dozen or so chlorine pellets that sink and sanitize the bottom of the well. https://www.amazon.com/CHLORINE-SANITIZER-PELLETS-LANDOMATIC-CHLORINATOR/dp/B00U1H48XM/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3ET11SINBSN1R&keywords=chlorine+pellets+for+well+water&qid=1568829511&s=gateway&sprefix=chrlorine+pe%2Caps%2C194&sr=8-4 Then recirculate water by running a hose into the well. Run until the water going into the well smells strongly of chlorine. Disconnect the hose, close the well, and let the chlorine stand in the well for about 6 hours. Then flush all the chlorine water out by running your sprinklers or watering your flower beds. The water may be brown and smelly when you start flushing, but will eventually clear. When there is no longer even a trace of chlorine in the unfiltered water, return the softener bypass valves to the operate position, and you are done!

I bought this 4 years ago and itโs perfect!!
Edit:: After 4 years of using this system it is still going strong!! I honestly have not laid a finger on it since I installed it. It is completely maintenance free. The paperwork says to replace the media every 5-6 years, so I will need to do that in another year or two, but my water, which smelled awful before I installed this system, has had no hit of odor whatsoever during these four years and I have not had to even think about the system. It automatically backwashes and maintains itself, just like it says it will. I have zero complaints and nothing but praise. There is still the caveat of the water looking cloudy from the thousands of tiny air bubbles when it first comes out of the faucet, but that just lets you know itโs working properly! The bubbles clear quickly and the water is perfectly clear, odor free and tasty!! Original review:: This system works perfectly! Removed the horrible smell completely! The automatic backwash system makes it completely out of sight out of mind and maintenance free. I couldnโt have asked for more. The control unit is easy to program, although I did call the manufacturer of the control unit and verify and they had me alter a few settings from what is in the book. The book instructions are not all that great, but much of the instructions are to be skipped because the media comes already installed, making installation a breeze. The only negative is when you first pour water from the faucet it is extremely cloudy. But the โcloudโ is only millions of tiny air bubbles that quickly dissipate and you have perfectly clear, odor free water! If you have stinky water, buy this now!!

Buy it!
I tried everything to get rid of the iron in my water. Filters, chlorine, they ask has their drawbacks and limitations. Of course they were all cheaper as well. After my wife began complaining about the chlorine in the water, despite the series of filters I had in the system I finally got fed up. I ripped everything out and installed this. Like magic, I had the cleanest looking and smelling water in the area. I even removed the spin down filter that I was constantly cleaning the sand out of, since this unit backwashes and sends it all down the same drain I was washing it into. I drink the water now all the time and see no residue at all, in appliances or cooking appliances. If you have iron in your water this is the final solution. Good for 5 years and despite the high cost, the medium can be replaced for about 100.00. The only issue Iโve had is it seems to leak at the connection point, no matter what I do. Still, itโsa slow leak that doesnโt effect anything. Amazon makes it easy to buy, with monthly payments. If it blew up tomorrow, Iโd buy another one immediately.

Happy with the end result
I have been on a well in my home for 15 years. We had a salt water softening system when we bought the home, but didn't care for the taste, or "feel" of the water when showering. I'll admit, I knew nothing about the system, other than to add salt when it was time. We decided to remove it, and install 2 whole house inline filters (cartridge type) off the pressure tank. I would change one every month, when water pressure decreased, or started to smell bad. We never drank the water, just drank bottled. Our water is high in iron, and sulfur. turns everything orange, and stinks BAD. When my pressure tank went, I decided since I was getting into the plumbing overhaul, I would add this unit, after hearing good things. Heres the story: THE GOOD: 1. Easy to install, with basic plumbing knowledge. 2. The water is crystal clear, absolutely no smell, and tastes as good as bottled. My wife still will not drink from the tap, though. I filled one of her water bottles from the tap, and re-capped it. The next time she asked me to get her a water, guess which one she got......drank it down and didn't say a peep. 3. We tested the water, and everything was in acceptable levels. Not true prior to this. Iron was off the charts. 4. The unit is relatively quiet when re-generating. Our bedroom is in the basement, right next to the storage room. we cannot hear it running through the backwash or air draw. THE NOT SO GOOD 1. Our drain line is 4' above this unit, and flush with the bottom of the floor joists. I put a tee in the line, and a trap, EXACTLY as it is drawn in the manual. water level was actually an inch lower than what they show, because my standpipe was an inch longer. The drain hose was securely fastened with a split ring hanger, and the 3/4" air gap recommended. When I hit the manual regen, the water pumps out with such force, that the water splashed out of the top of the pipe onto the floor. Just the initial blast, then it ran smoothly. well, I can't have water splashing out every time the thing goes to regen, so I changed it a bit. I added a rubber fernco cap on the 1 1/2" standpipe, and cut a slit in it to squeeze the hose through. that did the trick. If I had more space to make the standpipe taller, it likely would have been fine, but I was limited by the height of my joist (11"). 2. I recall reading that the media MAY last as long as 5 years before it needs replacing, I think thats fantastic.....But upon reviewing the manual for the powerhead, I find that they recommend you replace the piston and seals every 6 to 12 months. The service kit is roughly $100. And I also read that you need a special tool to do the change. (I have not found or priced that yet). I can swallow the price of the tool, and the service kit once or twice a year, but it burns me that This information wasn't readily available prior to my purchase. Perhaps I didn't look deep enough into it. One quick note: I did read on hear that someone made the claim the the unit uses 800 gallons to do one regen., and would not be good to use on a well. This is not true. the unit uses 80-100 gallons per cycle according to my emails with the manufacturer, and you decide how often it will regen. Overall, I'm glad I bought this unit, and would recommend it to anyone.

Fast Delivery, well made, works great!
This filter actually arrived a day early, delivered right to my garage door. This filter is so easy to set up, if your plumbing is configured for it. I use one inch stainless steel flex pipes to go to the filters. Adding this filter can literally take minutes if you have a setup like mine. If you have to replumb, then it's going to take appreciably longer. The filter setup is simple and the instructions spell it out very well. You also get a thumb drive with the filter that has a number of manuals and videos on it for setup and use of the filter. My water quality is so much better! I drank a glass of tap water and couldn't tell it from the filtered water that we normally drink. I've only had it installed for a little over a week, and so far so good. I am more than satisfied with this filter and with the seller. Edit: I noticed after a couple of weeks my water got browner and browner I checked everything and couldn't find the culprit. After reading about different possible causes, I decided that my filter was not backwashing properly. I went through the settings and saw that the backwash cycle was set for ten minutes. I've got nasty well water, not city water, so Iset the backwash for thirty minutes. That did the trick! My water is back to being clear and good tasting! EDIT 6 months later: Here's something I stumbled into that may help others. My water suddenly started getting really brown. After checking all the physical reasons, I went through the settings and noticed there was no Air Draw or brine draw on the menu. Somehow I changed the valve type to the wrong one. I went back through the settings, corrected the valve and got the air draw back. So, you folks who are having issues might want to check that.

AFW Filters customer service is a joke in todayโs market.
I purchased this item because I needed iron removal from a well. This air injection filter worked great for a few minutes then it would no longer hold the โairโ pocket to oxidize the iron from the water. When this happens the system is effectively bypassed. I called customer support at approximately 12 or so the next day after a few hours of troubleshooting. I spoke with โRogerโ. The conversation started out as โhey, this unit did not have settings stored into the machine. I need to make sure what I researched and entered was correct. Can you help me? Roger walked me though the settings and what they should be. I then told Roger the air pocket was going from 8-10 inches (starting) to completely no air pocket after two minutes (ending) or so when put back into service. Settings: Backwash- 15Min AirDraw- 60 mins Quick rinse- 2 mins This was leaving about 4-6 inches of air below the radius of the tank. (Neck taper) put a flashlight up to the tank to view. Roger confirmed what I suspected. The air cavity should be maintained -throughout its use when in the service mode. The air cavity is what oxidizes the iron from the water. No cavity, no oxidizing. My tank was not holding air. No obvious leaks, I suspected the air valve assembly. (Air was exiting the outlet of the tank and coming out of my water hose) Roger said check the inlet one way check valve. I did and it was clear and functioning. I called back to confirm that the check valve was working. He stated he didnโt know what else it could be. Then he stated he would contact the manufacture. That was around noon of the first day. I called back towards the end of the first day (~5) and was told Roger had not heard from the company. So I need to call tomorrow. I felt that Roger should have called me and told me this at the end of the day. I called Roger the following day at noon. Roger told me had not heard from the company, so I asked him to send me another valve assembly and I would try that. He said I would have to send it in for warranty work, and then they would repair it. So, buy new, then wait a month for a repair?? LOL, no. Roger stated he did not know what else could be wrong, so he was seeking guidance from the manufacture for possible repairs. I think he should just have sent a new head for me to try. He can repair the faulty one at his own leisure. If this would have happened I would have been satisfied. This would let me know that I, the customer, do have valuable time as well. I told Roger if this is his customer service then I would just send it back. I will not be waiting for warranty repair on a brand new unit. Hence, customer service is not quick and it is not with you the customer in mind. My time is important and I will choose another company for all my filtering needs. I would steer clear of this company and just go with another company. These units are generic and can be had by other suppliers, perhaps with customer service that keeps you the customer in mind.

Awesome Filter!!
Exactly what I was looking for! I recently built my house, and I have been trying to combat nasty smelling water ever since. For the past 1.5 years, I have been going through $50 worth of replaceable charcoal filters per month, trying to find the right filter to get rid of the rotten egg smell. I finally did some digging into these types of filters, and decided to give it a shot. It's REALLY hard to spend so much money on something that you've never seen, but trust me, it will work for you. It immediately got rid of the sulfur smell in the water, which was my biggest problem. I don't have a really high iron content in my water, but about every 2 months I've had to give my shower a deep clean because everything was staining orange, until I found this unit. It's been about 2 months since hook-up, and I don't even have a orange ring around the toilet. The media is supposed to last around 5 years, depending on water usage, and I think it'll be around $100 to replace the media. It uses around 60 gallons during its backwash cycle, so if you pay for your water, it might get a little expensive. Also, my tank has been sweating like crazy! Especially after a backwash. So, I searched the web and picked up a neoprene tank cover for about $50. I would highly recommend it. The main connections are 1", and the discharge is 1/2". There are also some great installation YouTube videos of a similar product. Overall, this has been one of the best purchases I've ever made. If you're sick of stinky water, and a stained bathroom, buy it. It WILL work for you.

3 Year review of AIS10-25SXT
I'm in South Florida on well water with 25ppm hardness and 3ppm iron. I bought the AIS10-25SXT in May 2019. Had to replace the Fleck piston in 2021 and filter media in June 2022. This originally came with 1 cubic ft. of Filter AG plus media which didn't work well at removing all the iron, it does remove egg odor. I had also bought in early 2019 the AFW Filters IRON Pro 2 water softener. My water was always yellow, AFW originally told me to buy extra tannin removing media which I did and put it in the water softener but the water was still yellow. You would think with both the Iron Pro 2 and the AIS10-25SXT all my iron issues would be solved but no! I regenerate the iron filter every day but after 3 years of dealing with this I dumped the AIS10-25SXT filter media and replaced it with 1 cubic ft. of Katalox Light ($200). I've been reading that gravel doesn't make a difference in a residential setup so I didn't use any. Seems to be working fine. My water is finally crystal clear!!

"IT WORKS" Well worth the purchase. "DOES THE JOB"
We already had a filtration system already in place including a water softener. The one problem we had was iron, manganese and sometimes a smell from the hot water. Sometimes with an accumulation of manganese the water would come out black from the hot water. I purchased this system based upon one review. I had been very sceptical. As soon as I had it all in place and running we've noticed the difference. The hot water is is crystal clear just like the cold water. The unit is cleaning the iron off the shower head, the sinks and toilet. My wife informed me that she loves the hot water and white clothes come out much whiter. I would recommend this unit to anybody having issues with iron, manganese or sulfur smell or even in the need of a filtration system. It was fairly expensive but the best filtration system I've ever purchased.

Takes Sulpher Smell awawd
We are very pleased with this purchase. I had a plumber install the unit mid November in Canada and it was up and running with in 1 hour. Initially the water was cloudy but by the next day it was clear and the sulphur smell had dissipated 95%. After 3 days we no longer can smell the sulphur. We already had another filtration unit that removed the iron so that was not an issue. Overall I am very pleased with the system and would recommend. It has only been 1 week since we installed and have been using so long term review will be determined at a later date.
