Great Backpacking Tripod!
Have used through an entire season now and am very happy so far. Very light, packs small, and is plenty sturdy enough for even a full size spotter. Doesn’t extend tall enough to stand behind but works great for an ultra light backpacking tripod. Even though the legs are fairly thin on the lower sections it holds very steady in a high winds. Have an ultra light ball head on it right now and for me it’s the perfect backcountry setup. 10/10 would recommend.

Exactly as advertised, high quality, well worth it.
Works as advertised, and is quite light as expected. (In fact, the head I mounted is the heaviest part of the tripod.) Easy to deploy, stable, although arranging the legs takes a little practice because they have such a wide range. Comes with a short post for low-to-the-ground shots, which I haven't used yet - but it's nice to have. (I had one on an old tripod, and when you need one - you REALLY need one).If you're going to hike and need a tripod (vs. a monopod), this is a great purchase.

MINE WAS BUILT BACKWARDS!!!
I bought this and everything was installed backwards. It won't let me message the company

Would be great for a backpack hunter
Would give 5 stars but haven't taken it out in the woods yet. Its very sturdy even fully extended with my 80mm swarovski spotter on it. Would be a great pick for a ultra light backpacker who needs a solid tripod

WAY cheaper than the competition, AT LEAST as good!
I got a chance to play with all tripods this size at B and H once... in a blind test, this tripod would've won out anyday. Come to find out, it's just plain great. I bought it about 5 months later and I've had it now for a little over a month. It's extremely lightweight, but very solid feeling. All the grips and surfaces feel great, the tighteners (?) feel great and really hold well. Everything I could've asked for a great price!

Great tripod, really bad design
I bought this product because it seemed to be the best possible tripod for it's price, low weight and features. I am giving it two stars, in spite of my bad experience, which you will probably not live, but I am warning you because it could happen to you! I bought it for a hiking trip in the rainforest in the caribean. Unfortunately, a piece of the tripod, the middle colummn that acts as an intermediary between the tripod post and the ballhead, became loose and decided to escape from the tripod as it hung from my backpack during a four hour hike. Now, very same tripod I bought for this trip, well, just became ballast on the first day of the trip. I was forced to walk into a Best Buy and get a cheaper Manfrotto so I could use a tripod for the reminder of the trip, until I had a chance to get back to NY to deal with the Sirui situation. That was a month ago. I contacted the distributor in NJ three times. they said that they would look into it. Alan was helpful in some way, as he sent me a diagram for me to identify the missing pasts. No word yet. I called B&H and they can't do anything, as it's basically "my fault" that this part decided to abandon it's mother ship... Now, I am stuck with an unusable expensive tripod. I looked into the Sirui website and they are based in China, the website looks prepped for fast sales and distribution, not "hell bent" on costumer service. I don't expect to hear from the distributor too soon, they probably don't get much support either.I believe that this model it's a bad design as the offending little center colummn tends to get loose on it's own. However, I admit fault, as the center column does have a small allen screw that will make this assembly safe and secure. Nevertheless, I wanted the portability, therefore i wanted to be able to take it apart quickly. But if you carry the tools with you, you don't have to loose this part like I did.I already have two Bogen/Mafrottos, which I hated because they are heavy, but they have lasted me over ten years. That's more than Sirui will probably last as a business if they keep putting out these fragile products. Do yourself a favor and buy form a reputable brand. One that will have parts handy, but more importantly, one that doesn't build self-disarming tripods. As for B&H, I expected better support as I bought that product and called them before the thirty days of purchase were over. I consider a product that falls apart too easily, a defective product.Follow up, November 2012:Amazingly, I got an email from the NJ distributor the day after writing this review. Ironically, his solution was the same as mine: to cannibalize another tripod from his stock and charge me $25 for the missing part. By this time, I had already ordered the aluminum sibling, but I ended up returning it after I got the part from the distributor. Thanks Alan, but if your solution was to take the same steps I took, you need a better company to back you up.Additionally, I got an email from the PR guy at B&H, basically explaining why they censored my duplicate review on their website and offering to order the parts for me. Too little too late. Furthermore, this guy was more like a troll. He basically compared my incident to "buying a car, letting the oil run out and them claiming warranty". I reminded him that this would be fraud and that his not doing a great job as a PR expert. I was not out to blame anyone, I was simply looking for service. Both B&H and Sirui failed miserably at providing it. From now on I am buying from Big Value Inc.

Decent for price
When it comes to gear like this, it's almost always worth it to save and buy the better brand. I didn't. I don't necessarily regret it, but it's not a very solid build. Light though.

Perfect for Travel
If you're looking for a super light & compact travel tripod that doesn't cost a small fortune, this is it. I'm a full-time traveler who lives out of his backpack -- so space & weight is very important. This carbon fiber SIRUI is a poor-man's Gitzo. I've been hiking with it in Iceland, South Africa, and Turkey with no problems. Small enough to hide inside a daypack. I'm not really a fan of their ball heads though, for that I use Really Right Stuff. I shoot on a Sony A7.

excellent tripod but difficult to get replacement parts in Western Canada.
I love this tripod, but It's extremely difficult to get replacement parts if you need them. There is no physical store in Canada so you must contact the main branch in Eastern Canada and they have to go through the US or Asia or something like that.
