Fantastic book, well laid out and easy to understand

This book is a real gem! Even at the age of 63, there are heaps of information about our language that I never knew. It makes very interesting reading, generally, and one constantly says 'I never knew that!?' The book shows how carelessly we use word and phrase, without knowing where they came from. Read an older version of this book, when I was a teenager . It’s brilliant! Crystal is a genius. He is the Obi Wan of the English linguistic world and brings to English language studies, what Attenborough has delivered to the world of Natural Science. He is one of our legends, but incredibly underrated in my opinion. ❤️👊

It’s mandatory for my course trust me this is not a book for leisure but it’s p good and user friendly, language isn’t too obnoxious and it’s well illustrated

I love David Crystal and he has taken it to a new level with this.
