Gator Deluxe Wood Case - Offset-Body Electric Guitar

Arguably a better example of the classic than the currently available Gibson one at $200!
When I grabbed a used Gibson brown LP case with the logo on the front for $120 recently, I grew disappointed at the red interior lining and lack of the silk overlay for the guitar. These might be fine points that are not particularly functional, but I wanted to get as close to the classic case as I could without shelling out hundreds more for their vintage/heritage or such version. So after selling the Gibson one for $150, I grabbed this one brand new from Gator for about the same (it was a return or somesuch) and I could not be happier. The construction, lining, exterior material, locks, and fit are all equal to or better than the brand case. And of course the classic brown and pink with silk overlay really take it over the top. Plus no one is going to ask me upon walking in the room "is there an actual Gibson in there?" because of the logo. The old ones didn't sport a logo, anyway, and now the attention and focus can remain on my beautiful example of the Japanese lawsuit era Les Paul replicas - my 1981 Greco Super Real EGF-1000. Together with this case, the experience for me is as good or better than one might expect out of the tenfold more expensive genuine article of a similar vintage.

Not just for Jaguars
I got one of these a while back for a Mosrite. Cool. Then I picked up a Harley Benton MR-Classic…clearly based on a Mosrite. Perfect fit. Then I needed a case for my Line 6 Shuriken SR.250. This was the only case I had that fit, so I ordered another one.I prefer molded TSA type hard shell cases, but finding one for unique shaped bodies is a challenge. So, these will work just fine.

Epiphone Sheraton Fitment
Fits my Epiphone Sheraton - but it is very, very tight. Crossing my fingers that it compresses some on the upper and lower bouts. Seen some question head-stock fit - that was not a problem at all. Should be OK I think. I bought it discounted (returned) via Amazon warehouse for same price as the Epi case which wasn't returnable - this was.

Flimsy case not solid like cases used to be
I'm really trying to make this all negative, so here goes. First for $149 case you would think Amazon would care enough to ship this in a box, but no this one came in a clear plastic bad, so it had two nasty dents right from the start. Next the top of this case is crazy flimsy and it doesn't even close up the gap at the butt of the case (see picture). They really need to move the latch at the butt to the center, but I called Gator about getting another latch to add to the case and was told if you aren't happy return it and if you want to add a latch then buy one on your own. Not much service. I like the inside material, the fit of the guitar and the quality of the covering, so I'll keep it and add another latch myself. I honestly think the price of this case is a joke for a case that flexes like the sides are cardboard. Don't buy if you plan to really gig with the guitar in this case because it's going to be a let down.

Beautiful Case
This is probably the best case I have ever bought. It looks so beautiful (even better in person)! The plush lining inside is a great color to contrast the exterior and makes it stand out even more. Everywhere I go people are complimenting me on the case. Fits the guitar perfectly. And it really feels solid. This case could take a beating. All the locks are aligned and latch tightly. The only thing I don’t care for is the silk lining that lays over the top of the guitar. I get that it’s extra protection, but I feel it’s not needed. Just gets in the way. But that can be easily taken care of. You will not be disappointed with this case.

Gator cases are great
My brother and I make bass guitars and so we find ourselves buying a lot of cases. For the first 5-years into our endeavor we knew what kind of bass we were building for our customers. Our niche was the blue collar musician. The guys and gals that play weekend after weekend in almost any venue imaginable. As a matter of consequence, given our clientele, it's safe to assume that we don't get any requests asking for us to ship our instruments in a gig bag.Yet still buying cases was a guessing game. We really didn't know which case would come out on top because it was a longevity of life question that had yet to be answered. We needed to buy one that was durable and also a real value. After five years with several brands, we decided to go with Gator. There are two models we buy, and we leave the choice up to our customer. We like the plastic molded GPE-BASS-TSA ATA models and for those that like the wooden cases, we get the Delux wooden GW-BASS cases. Both are obviously hard shell case and very durable. We like them both. But from here on out I'll leave this review to the case that is referenced above which is the deluxe wooden tolex case. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002GFQKQ/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_titleWe really like everything about them. They have a nice traditional look with the while piping. Since getting them our customers say the hardware doesn't pill or rust and the tolex stays in good shape. The case is heavy, balanced, and sturdy. What we really like is the material they use in the interior. There are some horror stories one in which I witnessed first hand with velour material. That's the kind of fiber that was used for the many of the earlier fender cases and surprisingly is still used today. With the right humidity conditions and if the bass sits in the case too long, the fibers will fuse themselves into the basses finish. It's a chemical reaction and it really stinks. These is nothing more sad than seeing a 1981 vintage Jazz bass ruined with orange fuzz sticking to it like two day old beard. Not so with the Gators. They use a different micro fiber all together for the cases we get. It's very soft, and fine. It might not look as dazzling as the shiny orange velours. But it's safe and that's what matters most.Dollar for dollar around $100 or so, this is a great case. It fits jazz styled and P-bass styled bodies, even five string Jazz style basses. The necks stay put in these, which helps keep the bass stable in the case while it's being jostled around. The Gator is quite popular with our bass guitar customers. So we'll continue to buy these and you won't be disappointed to own one as well.

Nice case
Needed a latch for bottom bout and I paid EXTRA to have it installed. I’d say that was a design flaw

Nice mid-tier case that fits some guitars
Note: this review is for what Amazon lists as "Brown", the rectangular wooden case.Personally, I love the vintage look of the case. It has an aged brown leather appearance offset nicely by the gold-plated hardware. It looks older than it is, which I like. The case is very lightweight given that's it's made out of (ply)wood. It doesn't work for all guitars. A Les Paul shape fits like a glove and is totally snug. Telecaster fits with a bit of wiggle room. Jazzmaster does not remotely fit.I haven't taken this case on the road yet. It appears fairly sturdy, although I can get a bit of flex out of the wood with my thumbs. I suspect that it wouldn't hold up very well to abuse and I doubt the case will last as long as the guitar I'm putting in it. Maybe it's tougher than it feels. In terms of the hinges/clasps/etc., it's a mixed bag. The feet are gold-coloured plastic although everything else seems to be metal. Some parts seem a little on the thin side. Clasps are reasonably sturdy. Keys are included if you want to deter thieves who don't also want a case for their new acquisition. The interior of the case is nicely plush. A compartment for whatever you might want to stow is handy and a decent size, although I don't really have a use for it.Overall, I think I'd hoped the case would feel a bit sturdier, although I could be underestimating it. Otherwise, this is a nice mid-tier case with a great vintage look - if it fits your guitar. For the price I paid (£50) it would be hard to complain. If it crumples at the first sign of trouble or turns out to be as tough as a Roland Micro Cube I'll endeavour to update this review.
