Natural and effective!
I have been using this product for a little over 3- months and it seems to be doing a great job. I live in a suburban area but have wooded areas surrounding my property, which are definitely susceptible to fleas and ticks and I have yet to see one on my dog. I applied the liquid down the center of my dogs back from between her shoulder blades to her tail as the package suggests. As some reviewer's have stated, there is a residue left behind on the fur after applied. I find it shows up the next day and looks like a light sandy brown dirt but only in the shoulder blade area. It doesn't bother me though because it brushes out easily. Also, it's a small price to pay for something that is natural, safe and effective. I hate using the chemical versions on the dog, but especially do not like the fact that these chemicals sit on the dogs fur making it easily accessible for my 4-yr old to touch accidentally even a day after applied. This is made with essential oils so no risk of chemical contact for us or the dog. This version does have a strong spice smell that lasts about a day or two and can be slightly overwhelming the first time used but I actually like the smell now, so it doesn't bother me. I have and will recommend this product to others. So glad I tried it even after I was told by an associate at a local pet store that based on its inexpensive price it probably wasn't that effective.

This Product Has Not Worked On Our Dogs
I had really hoped that this product would work, but it hasn't. Our dogs have always been exposed to ticks because we live out in the country in a wild area of Florida, but they developed a horrible flea problem after we introduced two other dogs into our family. I don't like to treat myself or our animals with toxic poison, so I've been trying every natural product that I can find or think of, to combat our flea and tick problem. Sentry Natural Defense doesn't work at all to help the problem. The dogs are still plagued with fleas and ticks. One of our dogs is white and Sentry Natural Defense leaves a huge brown spot on her back, which does wash out when I give her a bath. The only good thing that I can say about this product is that it doesn't smell like horrible chemicals. Instead, it smells like essential oils.

What does ALL NATURAL really mean?
I purchased this product because my dog has had serious health issues. She is currently taking homeopathics and is on a raw organic food diet. I make sure her treats are healthy, and not from China or have a bunch of ingredients I can't pronounce.I purchased this because of the claims of the product. But after reading the box, I wonder just what "natural" means to Sentry. If you have to avoid the mouth, eyes, cover up container... does that sound NATURAL to you? After further research, I discovered that harmful chemicals are still in the product; with just 25% of natural oils added. The word "natural" should not be used here. There is no regulation on the use of the word, so anyone can claim anything is "natural."I did put this on my dog before discovering all this, then immediately bathed her. The SMELL was also a reason for bathing it off. Very strong, pungent. Whichever room she walked in and left, the smell stayed. So if you're looking for "pesticide-free" flea/tick medication, THIS IS NOT IT.On my own I have discovered ways to control fleas naturally; however they are labor-intensive. One is to feed your dog GARLIC daily (mix in food, or give garlic tablets), as fleas hate the smell. You can also feed your dog organic Coconut oil (few tablespoons a day) and also rub on their coat/skin daily. It smells good and repels. Another way is to slice open, then boil lemons; let them seep for a few hours, then place the liquid in a spray bottle. Spray pet with lemon essence water daily.I was hoping to find a monthly NATURAL and PESTICIDE FREE way to protect my pet. Thought I found it in this one. But I was mistaken.

The smell is awful!
I have a 6 year old Yorkie with very sensitive skin. I bought this in hopes it would take care of the fleas without irritating it. So far so good. HOWEVER, this stuff really stinks, at least at first. It actually made my other dog sneeze when I first put it on my Yorkie so I can't imagine what it smells like to them. If it works VERY WELL I will just take advice from another reviewer and apply it outdoors, but I think at this point it would have to work the same or better than the nationally recognized brands that I have tried in the past. Update... I gave this product a few more days to really take effect, and even though the smell has finally subsided, I really don't think it's working very well. We live in a rural area and there are a lot of wooded areas and big grassy yards. Fleas have really been a problem this year, due partly to the very mild winter we had and this stuff seems to have done next to nothing for my poor little dog. I am definitely going back to a more expensive national brand and dealing with my Yorkie's sensitive skin in a different way. It isn't worth the awful smell or the money, at least for me taking consideration of where I live.
