Excellent Group of Dragon Characters.
The Box:- These twelve Dragon models come in a nice display box (perplexingly labelled "The World of Dinosaur" despite having obvious Dragons in it. The box is quite sturdy and makes a good place to keep the Dragons in. I MUST make mention of the text on the box which claims that the models are "made according to the scale of the real thing so that it is lifelike and breathing".The REAL THING?! I don't know where they found real animals looking like these, but I want to go there, like, RIGHT NOW! I've never actually seen a Dragon in the wild. (Except the Komodo variety, which don't count). And as to the worrying claim of the models "breathing", given the pyromaniacal habits of most Dragons, in the west at least, fortunately the set of models I got show no signs of committing any little incendiary attacks on the furniture. The Dragons:- Now, more to the point, the models themselves... First off, they're sturdy and robust and should withstand children playing with them perfectly well. (It says on the front of the box not to give them to anyone under three years of age but it says on the back of the box not to give them to anyone under five years of age. I think I'd go with the latter). These Dragons are actually surprisingly very good models, with a very high level of detail on them. There are some interesting scale textures, bits of bony armour, spikes, scutes and, for their size, teeth, claws, eyes and such are picked out well. Some of them are in some very good, dynamic poses. Also, the twelve Dragons are well varied, no two alike - beyond all being Dragons - and have some very interesting designs... including a three-headed one that looks not unlike King Ghidorah, despite being blue instead of gold. They all have distinct characters of their own, some looking moderately friendly(ish) and noble, others looking thoroughly dangerous and malevolent. Imaginative children can easily be inspired to give them names and make real characters out of them.Where the wings are glued in place on some of the models is a little obvious here and there - though none of the wings are loose or likely to come off - leaving the odd little line or gap that does spoil the sculpt just a little. However, these tiny gaps are easily remedied with a dab of filler and can be painted over for anyone who's at all bothered (besides me).The paint schemes on the models are... basic. A few of them aren't too bad, but mostly it's just a case of a different shade slapped roughly onto the model's base colour and a couple of hasty black spots poked on somewhere in the general vicinity of the Dragons' eyes. Now, if somebody'd given me these when I was six, I'd have been delighted and wouldn't have cared in the least about the paint schemes. But now, I find it annoying the painting is SO basic on most of them, because the excellent models deserve far better.Having filled the few little gaps under wing-joins and trimmed a couple of little mould-line flaws that probably nobody else in the world would have noticed or cared about, I've repainted all twelve of the Dragons carefully and lovingly with acrylics, picking out all the rich detail. They look fantastic... They thus make a nice little art project for anyone that way inclined. Very useful for our custom table-top fantasy games. All in all, a very good set for anyone who likes Dragons or fantasy creatures in general - I also bought the "Sienon 10Pack Dragon Toy Figures" set at the same time. It makes an excellent addition to this set, adding more creatures of much the same sort of size and quality. Both sets match perfectly and can - if you have REALLY epic puzzle-solving skills and a good deal of patience, also be fitted into the box this set came in with these ones. Just. More or less.

Drachen
