Sony sports walkman CD player
The player bookmarks, a definite plus when listening to audio books and doesn't skip as I listen while doing a variety of activities. I enjoy listening to audio books from the library. This player allows me to do that. I tried several less expensive CD players but they skipped, broke rapidly, and didn't bookmark. This constantly required finding where the story was last stopped when again listening to the audio book. There are models on which the batteries can be changed w/o removing the CD (a nice feature) and there are models that are easier to open and close, but the fact this model bookmarks, doesn't skip, and is sturdy makes it a keeper.

For ATRAC-3 Fans Only (Obsolete after 2010)
This item is now obsolete. Atrac-3 is no longer supported. Why buy this now?Ok, back in 2008 ... if you want to read on ...This Sony MP3 and ATRAC-3 player is a BUY if you have many ATRAC-3 burned music discs and want to preserve your collection, rather than changing it over to MP3. That is basicaly the review in a nutshell. You can continue to read - if you are a SONY product improvement manager, and think "how can I improve this walkman?"First, the SPORTS theme is excellent. Nice rugged look and feel, and buttons don't jump on/off at a delicate touch. So, you can put this baby in your gym pants, gym bag, etc. and it will not trigger anything on/off. That was a problem with the Sony DNF430. Everytime I reached for it, the music changed. So, the buttons can make or break its practical use in the sports activity area. Good job with this model. Here, it should get 5 stars.Second, the arm band should be optional. The size of the CD player makes it awkward to hold in the palm of the hand, or strapped onto the arm. It really belongs on the waist area or in a belt assisted carry bag. I am comfortable with my pocket camera in a belt bag, I am also comfortable with my cell phone in a belt pouch. There are many products on the market here for me to buy - which support my needs. Yet, this Sports CD player, because of its protruding handle, cannot fit into any bag. Frustrating? Yeah. Very. The practical usage of this Sports CD player becomes very limited.

I love the ear buds though
The CD Player did not work. I tried several different batteries and still nothing. I love the ear buds though.

Worked perfectly...
Strange to be writing this in 2013 now that my CD collection had been whittled down a handful of discs. However, it's worth remembering this player, as it opened my eyes to the benefits of the mp3 format. That, along with the locking mechanism which allowed you to run or have a work out whilst listening to your music, made this an important rung on my personal DAP ladder.

should have bought something in person
Quick summary: if you are looking for something to work out with, this player is great. If you are looking for something for your car or commute, it is terrible.I'm very unhappy with my purchase for purely practical reasons, but everything works and has nice sound quality, so I can't really complain and return the player. The various reviews praising battery life and sound quality as great are correct. I have not tried the MP3 functions of the player yet.You can't really tell in the picture up there, but the player has a large handstrap over the top of the player. This handstrap, to the best of my inspection, cannot be removed - it houses the 'screen' and playback (random, repeat, MP3 folders) options. The handstrap essentially doubles the size of the CD player. It *is* very nice if you are walking along with the player, but will not fit comfortable in a purse or backpack pocket.I also find CD loading awkward. The bottom of the player opens with a twist and the CD is held against the body of the discman. Again, excellent for jogging. Plays as well upside down as it does on its side or right-side up. However, this means that you cannot eject or load CDs with one hand (I like to change CDs without breaking pace when walking home). The twisting mechanism makes me nervous about it's lifetime and I'm not entirely comfortable jamming or unjamming my CDs into the player. So, I basically should have bought a $30 player that would have fit in my purse, have a spring mechanism to open, and probably equal sound quality. If you want this for sports, go for it. Else, find another player.

Perfect for listening to audio books.
I bought this for listening to audio books. It will pick up where you left off when you stop. Allows you to set bookmarks (which you probably won't need since it will pick up where you left off by default). You can fast forward and reverse without having to go all the way back or forward a chapter, for those times you missed something and want to hear it again. Basically it has every feature I wanted in a device to listen to books.

Built in handle for sports use interferes when used in any other way
No complaints with the CD player itself, but on the back of the unit are two curved flexible blades that are intended to clasp the user's arms, which get in the way if one simply wants to set the unit on a table, etc. The unit is MP3 compatible, but, and I think this is a big "but," one has to burn the MP3 files to a disc before playing them in the player, which is not a recorder itself. Bottom line, not as useful as we would have liked. I bought this in advance of a birthday for my wife, however, she wanted to return it for the reasons given above, only to discover that "too much time had passed," even though she never used the player. So much avoiding "last minute" shopping. Might try to sell here or on Ebay. A jogger would have more use for it.
