Important, timely
After watching Dov on Charlie Rose, I bought the book hoping to learn more about the business side of behaving ethically. In How, I wasn't disappointed. I found the case studies most helpful, including the donut vendor who lets customers make their own change and several longer stories based arounddoing the right thing. In fact, I would have loved more of them (hence the four-star review).Seidman is absolutely right: today, things are entirely transparent. As other books have pointed out (most notably Tapscott's Grown Up Digital), many young people today want to work at organizations that do the right thing. That is, good ethics = good business. The leadership framework didn't apply to me so much since I am a small business owner. (Really small, as in I work for myself.) Still, conducting myself with class, honesty, and the like is certainly good business. If your organization doubts the importance of doing the right thing, buy this book and give it to the top ten executives.

Everything We Do Means Something to You
Dov tells each of us that your individual success is not about WHAT you know, but how you DO what you do in today's world. This is a very important message to all the world's citizens. In a time where national boundaries are virtually disappearing due to communications tools like the Internet, our world has become very small. As Chris Abraham cited back in 2007, the book is:"Divided into four comprehensive parts, this insightful guide:--Exposes the forces and factors that have fundamentally changed the world in which business operates, placing a new focus on the hows with which we conduct ourselves--Provides frameworks to help you understand these hows and implement them in powerful and productive ways--Helps you channel your actions and decisions to thrive uniquely within today's new business realities--Sheds light on the systems of how-the dynamics between people that shape organizational culture-and introduces a bold new vision for winning through self-governance": How by Dov Seidman is Very Important Marketing Conversation [...] Read more

I'm reading this aloud to my high school/college kids!
My friend Art Jones suggested that I read this book and it has not disappointed me.I have been reading bits and pieces aloud to my kids and they have resonated with the comparisons to the movie references. We watched Cast Away as a family movie night so I had to read that entire section! This book has empowered me to live out my how, embrace my unique way of "outbehaving" without feeling guilty or like an over achiever. I've been given permission to excel in the ways I create connection AND live out my purpose.

HOW based leadership is inspirational and actionable
Dov Seidman hit home run with this book. Clearly written, engaging and plenty of research to back up his thesis. Don't be intimidated by the length. Get it, start it and you will not put it down.

David Toms on speed dial
Considering all the positive reviews for this book, I almost feel like I read the wrong book.Dov Seidman may have written an important book, I know he feels he did based on the writing style. The book is written more for the academic than the business person or casual reader. We read this book in a book club and literally no one found is readable. The author spends many portions of the book patting himself on the back. The author name drops, one example is talking to David Toms (must have been on speed dial) about an incident with a penalty he took over a moved golf ball. He goes into great depth about his conversations with Altria (Phillip Morris). Note the Seidman's company LRN just happens to have a former Altria exec working for it.Where he lost me was his argument that the internet has added transparency to business. I do not disagree that business needs more transparency, but the internet is far from transparent. It's just another layer of spin, an area that Seidman pretty much ignores. This is a book with a pretty simple idea that takes itself far too seriously. The wave metaphor never clicked with me. But I did the wave when I finished this book.

Everything Old is New Again
Well stated argument for importance of values, principles and what Seidman calls "out-behaving" as a competitive tool in corporate life. Good examples and interesting analogies throughout. Brings to mind Adam Smith's 18th century project to create a decent society through markets but, unless I missed something, seems light on value of principled behavior for its own sake. Still, an excellent read.

Thesis is better than the book itself
It's great that someone has finally recognized that the bottom line isn't everything. Thanks to Dov Seidman for highlighting the importance of context and qualitative factors in human activity. The book and examples are OK. I wish the message were powerful enough to stick.

Non è quello che speravo
Francamente questo libro non ha soddisfatto le mie aspettative.Niente di illuminante, a tratti quasi banale.Non lo consiglio.

Amazing read. But for the mature mind
Amazing read. But for the mature mind. As an individual starting his career as a manager, it is a tough read. It is sort of the book that you've grow into rather than that grows on you.
