We have an old Hamilton Beach air purifier that has been out of production for years, and the manufacturer has long since stopped making replacement filters. You might find one or two of the originals being sold by private parties, but if you don't know how it was stored (or whether it is truly unused) that's a heck of a gamble, especially as they seem to get pricey.It is also a gamble to buy one from some other company, as we did from Crucial Air -- because they aren't bound to the Hamilton Beach brand, and most of us lack the lab equipment to measure them and tell whether they actually filter particles of the size denoted by the HEPA designation. One simply has to trust that the company gives it a good try and that perhaps the filter actually works as well as claimed.That brings us to the easy part of this review. This filter appears well made, sturdy, smells fresh out of the box, and fits in the air cleaner just as it should. The air coming out smells okay and, naturally, looks okay (you don't see anything!). Are there small particles sneaking through it? I can't tell you. The fact is, most of the visible dust in your home will get trapped on the prefilter, and most of the stuff that bothers people is actually larger than the HEPA standard requires (.3 microns).We've been running the machine for a month or so with this new filter and we are breathing better, but "unfortunately" we bought two new machines for other rooms around the same time. That means we can't give total credit to the new Crucial filter insert because the whole house now has cleaner air. But we believe the old machine is helping, and that this filter is a good choice for it. *Maybe* it is cleaning really small particles at a genuine HEPA level, but that's a leap of faith.Bottom line: so far we feel good about the purchase and suspect that it's the best choice available if you have an old HB unit like ours.

If you are buying one, you know they go into a Hamilton air purifier that has probably lasted you over 10 years! And mine is ALWAYS on. Zero problems. Yeah, replace the covering carbon filter and then this mega filter periodically. Sure, that costs. BUT - its worth it. You have a machine that just won't quit. Mine has made it across the country as well.

Excellent replacement filter.I have used Crucial Air for many products. They are of very high quality and perfect match for the original OEM filter. As good as or in some cases, better than the OEM filter.
