Stud Finder, Tacklife DMS05 - Not fit for purpose
I ordered based on its apparent high reviews. It was delivered this morning and I've now fully tested it.Conclusion? Not fit for purpose. It is way way way too sensitive. A flea farting 2 miles away triggers it. It is totally useless trying to isolate pipes and wiring to a certain location. As for finding studs - forget it. No matter how much you try to calibrate it - it is forever going off. I could never trust this device.I couldn't understand all the positive reviews until I checked back here. They are not even for this device. SO BEWARE WHEN ORDERING THIS PRODUCT! Sending it back immediately for a refund.

Not used it for anything practical, it was a gadget, so I bought it. Now I know how hot my dog is.

Works perfect
I was a bit apprehensive about the quality of this point and shoot thermometer because it was so cheap compared to other similar products.Testing the unit was both fun and obsessive. After pointing it at various frosty patches outside and consistently getting zero/sub zero readings, various objects in the house and getting consistent readings around the 18*c mark, etc. etc. etc., it soon transpired I needn't have worried.I bought the thermometer to help me balance my radiators and it worked a treat. I tested a radiator I knew was balanced and there was the expected drop of 11/12 *c so to my mind this little gadget works a treat and is well worth the price. As another review pointed out, this unit is so simple and intuitive to operate you don't even need to read the instructions (at your own risk!)

Fantastic.
Brillilant, absolutely ******* brilliant little tool. I now know what temperature my cats are, what temperature the hob is when cooking, what temperature my ceiling is and many other things I'd spent most of my adult life wondering about.I'm sure I'll find an actual use for it eventually, like finding out where the draughts are, what heatsinks are running hot etc but for now at least I can honestly say my cats are both around the same temperature when they aren't chasing the pointer.

A 'bit' disappointing (but TBA)
On paper this item and its set of tools looks to be excellent value, and that would be true if not for a significant flaw has come to light which has halted the job I'm working on.The brass chuck did not hold the arbor for the small cutting wheel tightly enough and this became loose and flew off the machine; never to be found. There is only one arbor in the kit which is impractical since this holds several of the cutting discs etc.The arbor spinning in the brass chuck appears to have worn it so it won't now hold the tools properly and this is after one use.The 2 chucks in my set I measured as 3mm and 4mm but now the 3mm arbors spin in the smaller one.I purchased some 3.2mm arbors but they don't fit either chuck.Since this review was originally done, Tacklife has contacted me with an offer of a replacement (which is very good customer service) so I may revisit it with a different rating in due course.

Great tool
I have used this thermometer for loads of stuff since I have had it from checking the temperature of my fish tanks, whilst still seated of course, to checking the oven temperature. I used it to check the temperature of my laptop before turning on the cooling fan and a few minutes after using it. Based on all of these things this thermometer works and does what it says. This is one of the those items that everybody will have a different use for.Getting started is easy enough, remove the packaging from the battery in the compartment and you are ready. The unit itself is not too heavy which is great especially when getting carried away and is as simple to use as point and click. With a wide range of temperature measurements, the laser guiding and the good construction its one I would recommend.

Handy device to have in the tool box
Effective at detecting what it’s supposed to, just make sure you have a reference point when you first start using it. I find that a reset works best between each search, particularly if you have a block wall with cable and plaster beading in it. As with all these tools at this price point it’s designed to give you a guide and the probability of finding the cable etc. I’m glad I invested in this for the money, handy to keep in the tool box.

Excellent
Does what it says on the tin. Comes with two AAA batteries. It gives a read out quite quickly and holds it for 7 seconds, when you let go of the trigger. I cannot vouch for accuracy but it seems to be in the ball park for the things I've used it for so far. Pointed it at my room radiator and it read 24 degrees - which I guess is about right as I've got the heating set at 21 (love a warm room) and the rad may just have been through a heating cycle. Read the instructions on use first to make sure the target area is within the region you want to measure - target area gets bigger the further away you are, of course.I bought this specifically to check the central heating heat store sensors as I've been having some domestic hot water temperature fluctuations. The control board was indicating ok temperatures from all sensors but this thermometer showed the body of the brass sensors to be about 10 degrees lower. That means the control board thinks the hot water is hot enough but it actually isn't - which explains why I was getting luke warm at times and not hot. So it looks like a heat store sensor swap is needed.EDIT: I checked this agaianst a thermometer in water being gradually heated and it seemed to correspond well - not a perfect comparison but close enough for confidence.
