“Balaji has the highest rate of output per minute of good new ideas of anybody I’ve ever met, and The Network State may be his best.” — Marc Andreessen, cofounder of Andreessen Horowitz "We've started new currencies. Now The Network State shows us how to start new cities and new countries." — Vitalik Buterin, cofounder of Ethereum "Balaji is a visionary, and one of the most original thinkers of our time. Many have had the experience of hearing him say something, thinking it was crazy, and then a year or two later realizing 'Balaji was right.' I think Balaji will be right about The Network State ." — Brian Armstrong, cofounder and CEO of Coinbase "The future convergence of networks and governments, from one of the most brilliant thinkers alive." — Naval Ravikant, cofounder of AngelList When the brand new is unthinkable, we fight over the old. That’s where we are today with governments, with politics, and with much of the physical world. But perhaps we can change that. This book introduces the concept of the network state: a country you can start from your computer, a state that recruits like a startup, a nation built from the internet rather than disrupted by it. The fundamental concept behind the network state is to assemble a digital community and organize it to crowdfund physical territory. But that territory is not in one place — it’s spread around the world, fully decentralized, hooked together by the internet for a common cause, much like Google’s offices or Bitcoin’s miners. And because every citizen has opted in, it’s a model for 100% democracy rather than the minimum threshold of consent modeled by 51% democracies. Of course, there are countless questions that need to be answered to build something of this scope. How does a network state work socially, technically, logistically, legally, physically, financially? How could such a thing even be viable? That’s why you should read this book. Look to the future solidly supported by the shoulders of giants
I'm reading the book and it's simply amazing observing the number of notions and dots connected by Balaji, and shared for free. This book is literally an injection of food for thoughts, useful also for traditional investors and crypto skeptics. It just needs the reader's willingness to be sufficiently open minded to go beyond prejudices and biases. I feel lucky to be part of this community. For whatever the future holds, one thing is sure, I'm part of an amazing journey with exceptional people. In my honest opinion, from an evolutionary perspective it is unavoidable that a more efficient system will substitute the old, nepotistic, and bureaucratically rigid one. As said by Donald Hoffman: "So, it makes good evolutionary sense, I would say, to have a Decentralized [Finance]" Donald Hoffman I just finished reading "The Beginning of infinity" and when Detusch speaks about the Easter Island downfall, it's easy to notice some parallel between the attempt to suppress creativity from the establishment in our Western society and the consequence of a similar approach on the Easter Island society. Absence or suppression of creativity is often the main cause of collapses and usually the consequence of abundance. Abundance of resources and overload of information, as it is the case nowadays. "since problems are soluble, all disasters are caused by ‘poor resource management’" David Deutsch This book is the result of an excellent resources management, essential to be ready for the future. West and East are no longer the only cardinal directions to look at, There are infinite new cardinal points now.

as a society, we need to level up.
What is the next step towards organizing society in times of global connection and new technologies? Balaji draws an inspiring picture of a future version of nations - 100% democratic through opt in per design. I really hope that this vision sparked the ambition to change the world for the better and break through the inefficiency by our centuries old legacy system for a better future.

A worthy sequel to the Sovereign Individual
Blockchain technology is changing everything and destabilizing many Western institutions. This book begins to explain how the technology will eventually lead to new forms of "Nation States", in much the same way that James Dale Davidson and Lord Rees-Moggs explained how earlier technological innovations completely re-organised human civilization.

It's time to start a new country
"A network state is a social network with a moral innovation, a sense of national consciousness, a recognized founder, a capacity for collective action, an in-person level of civility, an integrated cryptocurrency, a consensual government limited by a social smart contract, an archipelago of crowdfunded physical territories, a virtual capital, and an on-chain census that proves a large enough population, income, and real-estate footprint to attain a measure of diplomatic recognition. " — Balaji Srinivasan Early this year, I was participating in Balaji's VR lectures on the topic of Network State. Since then, I was so looking forward to reading this book to gain a fundamental understanding of the future of society and community --- using innovative technologies to build decentralized online communities first and eventually create a new state with a crowdsourced narrative model + digital currency incentives + community-formed moral code of conduct and culture. I'm so glad to be part of the 1729 community, where I see many entrepreneurs, investors, builders, and remote workers have already started to gather into online groups and practice their ideas beyond the barriers of language, border and culture. The future will lead to somewhere more than we can imagine with the help of technology, and everything will happen gradually and then suddenly. Better equip yourself in time by reading this remarkable book!
