Description

Imavir Acyclovir Sterile Ophthalmic Eye Ointment is a topical antiviral medication containing the active ingredient acyclovir, which belongs to the class of drugs known as ophthalmic antivirals. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of acute herpetic keratitis, particularly dendritic ulcers caused by herpes simplex virus and may be used alone or in combination with other medications. The recommended dosage regimen involves applying a thin 1 cm ribbon of Imavir ointment into the lower conjunctival sac of the affected eye five times daily, approximately every 4 hours while awake with treatment continuing for at least three days after complete healing is observed. Common side effects, occurring in 2–10 percent of patients, include transient eye pain or stinging upon application, punctate keratitis and follicular conjunctivitis. Imavir is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to acyclovir or valacyclovir.
