There's someone watching you
Entertaining horror that sees a group of young adults selected to live in an ultra modern house for a short while, and just be themselves. The catch? They will be filmed like big brother. However the kids soon realize there is a bigger catch.... Movie is very watchable and just downright fun it's also at times hyper violent with some nasty gore scenes that horror fans will love. When everything kicks in we move into breakneck speed and we also get decent characterization, so both ticks there. And that's all there is to Kobolos, it's straight down the line, and doesn't offer any other layers. But for what it is, kids trapped in a house, this works a treat and is a 90s little gem of a movie.

Flawed but enjoyable horror film
You're probably going to have to forgive quite a lot to enjoy this film. Especially because the opening scenes, with the framing device, are at best flawed, and do almost nothing to advance the horror. (They were actually shot after the main filming, when they realised that there wasn't enough material to make 90 minutes). The same goes for the ending, which I personally thought was one twist too many - the last scene at the hospital did almost the same thing, but this somehow makes it both more ambiguous and too obvious. On the other hand, I'm still thinking about the ending nearly a week later, so it's not completely ineffective. So really the part that I mainly enjoyed was the middle 30-40 minute section. I thought the gore effects were well done, considering the low budget, and the tension from the moment that the traps are revealed was very effective. It really did remind me of Cube (1997), except the more realistic setting and relatively fleshed-out characters gave it more weight. It's not a perfect horror film, but I think I would watch it again. And the extra features (and higher quality - where possible, considering the source material), and the booklet , where available, means that the blu-ray justifies the extra cost.Maybe if the film-makers had been more experienced, they could have made a better film, with a more satisfying ending. As they are reportedly working on a new horror film, perhaps we'll find out. But there's still a lot to like here, and if they went wrong along the way, at least they had an interesting idea, with some memorable death scenes. As Mark Z. Danielewski wrote in House of Leaves, sometimes we're lucky to have a frosh.

Enjoyable horror movie.
I heard a lot of negative comments about this movie but I had a gut feeling I would like it so got it and yep it was ... like it that is.Good enough acting from female lead but the rest is ok to awful.Suspence is ok enough but anyone reading this (having come looking at comments for the movie) I take it has watched enough horror to know who's next on the killers list. The kills are violent but only two are gory.Still not sure what to think of the ending though. But as the headline says for me it is an Enjoyable horror worth my money but expect nothing new or special. NOT a date movie if you want a second date.

Gory but ineffective
Gave this a shot after seeing it discussed online and went in completely blind. Straight out of the gate you are met with cringeworthy cardboard acting but a potentially interesting premise - a group of 'actors' (ironic) stay in a house to be recorded 24/7 for an 'experimental film'. Abruptly they are locked in and start being killed off. Since I never found the actors captivating or relatable by any metric I really didn't care what happened to them. The death scenes flit between being gruesome and corny - one of the few credits I will give this film. However the camera work and lighting leaves a lot to be desired desperately emulating other horror films (Suspiria) but ends up being kitschy/sloppy. Then to top it off; a massive fart in your face with a completely telegraphed tropey 'twist' ending. Somehow reviewers believe this is groundbreaking, some say it is proto-Saw, I simply disagree. If I wanted a 'trapped' movie with grautious kill scenes I'd just watch The Cube - released 2 years prior to Kolobos, mind you. Overall I found myself waiting for this to end and it didn't leave an impression except exasperation for being foolish enough to sit through it all. At least it only cost 99p, had to drink two cups of coffee to stay awake during this one.

Locos
This movie has good characters and some interesting ideas. At times, it was a bit disturbing, honestly, which, for a slasher movie, is quite an achievement considering we all what's coming. Some warning though - this is a recent post-Scream slasher so to an extent the writers are clearly in on the joke regarding the predictable elements. There's some twists and such, which I don't think made sense at all, but I was under the impression this was part of the "post-Scream" thing - many slasher movies have logic inconsistencies (if they're supernatural slashers and have at least one sequel, its probable the entity works on different rules than the previous movie), so I'm not going to reduce the rating for that.

Deserves to be more well-known
What a revelation! A well-plotted, intelligently-written tight little thriller with great performances across the board. All the characters manage to avoid cliché and are actually likeable.Having seen hundreds of horror films, I've become somewhat pessimistic when it comes to plot; they're usually dull and plodding, with the usual annoying teens getting bumped off in gory set-pieces. Not here though. We get to meet each character first, then see how they interact with the others and the surroundings in which they find themselves, and then with the events which befall them. There are plenty of little nods to other films - most obviously in the opening theme tune, which pays homage to Argento's Suspiria [1976] 2 Disc Special Edition [DVD ], which made me smile. Not really a slasher though, it's got plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing, and an original plot device involving the sketchbook drawings of one character.Whether you're a jaded oldie like myself, or new to the genre, you'll be drawn in by this story, and will not be able to stop until the revelations at the end. I urge everyone to watch this film.
