A Town Without Christmas stars Patricia Heaton ("The Middle," "Everybody Loves Raymond") as a television reporter, assigned to find a young child who wrote a letter to Santa Claus wishing to leave the world so he will no longer be a burden to his divorcing parents. At the same time, the small community has cancelled the annual Christmas pageant, causing much strife. With the help of Max, everyone has new hope in the magic of the holiday season. A Town Without Christmas originally aired in 2001 on CBS.

Great story, lots of pieces neatly bought together
This movie came close to moving me to tears in a couple of scenes. Lovely story, nicely woven. We''re not talking Pulitzer Prize stuff here, but I found it very enjoyable, light fare. Many characters with pretty much cliche conflicts .... all enjoyably brought together with some of Max's usual delightful, lovely, and mysterious interferences. The child is well acted. Made the story! If I felt one facet of the story that might have been deepened a bit, it was that the basic premise of the story was not made more threatening, more challenging .... more frightning ... that a very young child might commit suicide on Christmas Eve. But .... guess the writers thought the idea alone was sufficient. Would have added a lot more suspense, that's all.I had none of the issues with the DVD, its delivery, or it's format. Although it took much longer than it should ever have, it arrived in perfect, flawless condition. Played perfectly on Samsung player. No broken, failed reads. Though subtitles are always nice (my hearing isn't the best!), the audio and dialog was kept pretty much loud, and was clear all the way through. Didn't notice much mumbling in the audio.. Do wish they'd just make subtitles a standard feature on all DVDs etc.

A cute, well done Christmas movie.
After "It's a Wonderful Life" and "White Christmas", this is my third favorite Christmas movie. Patricia Heaton plays a heartfelt part in this. Unfortunately, I had to return the movie because it wasn't available in the United States coded version. Not a problem on Amazon's part, it just wasn't released at that time.

A movie with heart........
Fantastic movie. I've been praying for this to come out on DVD since I first saw it on Hallmark Channel. Peter Falk was outstanding in his role as the Angel named MAX. So good that He was brought back to make two sequels to this movie. This movie can dampen your eyes so keep a box of tissues handy. Before the movie is over it will have your heart jumping with the joy of Chrsitmas.

A Town Without Christmas
A nice Christmas film without the slush of most TV films and with enough of a supernatural edge to keep you and the kids intrigued. Peter Falk (Columbo) as the mysterious Max is excellent and the main characters don't overdo their part and play it like it's real. A must on my Christmas to watch list.
