The model DA-550HHR high-headroom RF distribution amplifier with 12-volt IR is the heart of a multi-room distribution system with outputs to eight Televisions with coax runs up to 150 feet. The model DA-550HHR has three inputs, one from off-air antenna or CATV and two from channel plus 5400, 5500, or svm Series modulators. The DA-550HHR is used with antenna applications for off-air digital and NTSC signals.

Literature is a bit confusing on what can be connected as inputs. Ignore the nomenclatures modulator and antenna. It is possible to use the three separate inputs for three separate antennas. I actually have four antenna "groups" connected. Each group has its own dedicated amplifier and filters. The eight outputs are great and allow both very long (100 feet) and very short cable runs without noticeable signal loss or overload. This unit was purchased to replace its twin that died after nearly eight years of use. The original unit died from what seems to have been an eight year SLOW burn of an internal voltage regulator. I base this on the discoloration beneath this regulator and the fact it burn out. Will definitely buy another one in eight years.

works, but destroys itself if given certain IR inputs
The RF DA function works just fine. The other function is to repeat IRinputs from DA outputs. This unit burns itself out when an IR sensoris exposed to IR noise. - - It's one thing for it to not work in the presence of noise - I can see that - but it burns out! - That's a design error. Tech support insulated me from engineering instead of allowing meto work with them, which I was happy to do. (I'm an electrical engineer)Instead, they gave me silly things to do like installing a surge suppressor and another power supply. They never acknowledged the problem, but gave a 'modified' unit to try. Beware if you depend on the IR function. This might be a company that just markets devices that are designed offshore and don't have significant internal technical competence.

CHANNEL PLUS DA-550HHR
The CHANNEL PLUS DA-550HHR Video Distribution Panel with I/R work's great, does what it says I like the fact that it combines two channel modulators on to one cable.

Only lasted three days.
This is the second unit I have tried. The first unit lasted a couple of years before failing. The new repalcement unit only last at most three days. The new replacement unit will not reset nor power up, even with every input/output disconnected. Installed a new Electroline drop amp and now have the best picture I have ever had. I used a 3-way low loss splitter to combine the three inputs, two modulated and one antenna. I put the antenna in the low loss port and then added the other two modulated signals. Feed that combined signal to the new drop amp with 8 outputs. Wow, works great.

Flawed Technology
I have used this device in an IR repeater system for 5 years. The original unit expired and I ordered a replacement. This unit is equipped with an internal breaker/reset feature. I installed the unit and attempted to access my equipment through IR. It kicked its breaker and never woke up. This technology is too weak to be sold. I just paid $160 for a paper weight. Sorry Channel Plus but you have lost my business forever. The concept of IR commands through coax is compelling but the hardware is too fragile.

Outstanding Product
This item exceeded my expectations. It was extremely easy to install and worked very well with the Channel Plus modulator with which I paired it.

Working Great for Years
I've had this coupled with the SVM-24 for nearly 3 years now. My only issue has been that it's _very_ easy to accidentally short the cable when adding a new device -- which trips the breaker in the unit requiring a restart. The breaker is obviously a very good feature and I've taken to unplugging the power on those rare occasions when I need to re-patch my video network.I've experienced "IR noise" due to an LCD TV -- and beyond making things unresponsive during the interference, once the noise "settles down" things go back to normal instantly. I'm not sure what the other reviewer experienced, but I've had the same unit for years and it works as advertised. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to distribute over coax.
