Good tool for converting VCR tapes
I was initially hesitant to buy it because of the problems people reported with Windows 10. I made sure my Windows 10 installation was up to date and ran the Pinnacle install CD. When it completed, I rebooted the system and installed the Windows 10 patch you download from Pinnacle. I attached the Dazzle device and everything worked perfectly. The Pinnacle interface appears rather intimidating at first glance. There is a help manual that installs, and I recommend that first time users spend some time reading through it. In the manual there are links to some relatively short but informative videos that will help you get up to speed with the interface. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy to use. I had some very old VCR tapes that i wanted to put on my Plex server, and this did exactly what I wanted to do.

READ THE 1-2 STAR REVIEWS FIRST
I had an old version of this product that I used years ago to transfer my old camcorder videos to a Windows XT computer. THAT one worked well. With today's technology I figured I'd see if I could get better quality transfers and opted for this new version that "works" with Windows 11. I have Windows 11 Pro, a new Dell with an 11th Gen Intel i7-1170 @ 2.5 GHz, 128 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Video Graphics card. Far more than the minimum requirements for this item. The first thing that happened when I installed the software is that it failed because I had Core Isolation on and that was preventing the installation of some drivers. In order to install the software I had to turn this off. That should have been my first red flag, having to remove security in order for something to be installed. But installation apparently finished, so I launched the software and it worked. I checked for updates, and one was available, so I installed it. After that I launched the software again and was informed that I am not a registered user now (after the fact I read reviews of this product and saw that I am NOT the only one), and the app quit. So I uninstalled everything using the Uninstall feature. But that doesn't uninstall everything, I still had to go to Installed Apps and remove what it left behind. Against my better judgement, I turned off Core Isolation and reinstalled the software. After installation it asked if I wanted to install the update. Figuring the previous failure was the culprit of the registration issue, I did. Launching the app, I was no longer a registered user and the app quit. So, I uninstalled everything again, reinstalled and did NOT apply the update. The software then launched and I was able to start transferring the video. The video capture was nothing but choppy video and audio filled with static (NOT in the source tape). Unusable captures. It was then that I decided to just send it all back. After uninstalling everything to repack it, I turned Core Isolation back on and was informed that there were 5 or 6 incompatible drivers preventing me from turning this security feature back on. So the uninstall feature leaves behind the drivers that required Core Isolation to be turned off, so it could not be turned back on. Luckily the System Security app tells which drivers are incompatible, so I was able to find them in c:\windows\system32 and rename them so they would not load, and I was able to reactivate Core Isolation. So, at least with Windows 11, in order to use this software be prepared to turn off Core Isolation forever (or until you remove the software and the incompatible drivers), be prepared to never upgrade the software because you will no longer be a registered user (of course you can PURCHASE the newest software after having purchased this) and be prepared for unusable video/audio capture.

Works great for MiniDV from Sony HandyCam HC-42 to Dell PC Windows 10
I have a 15-year old Sony HandyCam HC-42 that doesn't record or work anymore. However, I also had a dozen family movies on MiniDV tapes that I wanted to convert to DVD or flashdrives to watch. I tried other products and connections...very frustrating. I bought the Dazzle converter...plugged it into a USB port on my Dell Windows 10 PC and used the Sony video cable that came with the camera (red, yellow, white plug on one end). The software is really good and this worked without any issue. I don't normally write reviews, but after being so frustrated by other products and firewire cables and PC boards, etc...this was like a 15-minute instant fix. The software also allows you to edit the movies and sharpen them. Again...very happy with this product and hope this helps someone else.

Solid video decoder/converter. Much better hardware than cheaper alternatives for old video tapes.
In a nutshell: This product converts older, marginal video tapes where cheaper hardware failed. 5 stars for the hardware, -1 star for the software experience. I had successfully used a cheaper converter for MiniDV to digital conversion, but when I got an 8mm camcorder to convert some 20+ year old tapes, it was not able to get good color. It showed black & white video with dancing psychedelic colors. The video from those older tapes was just too marginal and the cheaper converter was failing. I saw a comparison video that suggested the Dazzle hardware would work better--and it sure does! It was able to successfully convert & show the correct colors and I'm converting the videos as we speak. That said, all the above praise is ONLY for the hardware. The software experience is NOT GOOD so far: 1) installing the default software also installed gigabytes of content and took a ridiculous amount of time--like 45 mins. 2) I started to use the software & decided to update. After updating, all i get is a message saying I am not registered (it didn't ask!) and I have to call customer service. When I get a chance, I'll have to see about getting that to work... I am able to use the Open Source VLC software to do the conversion. I am on a PC running Windows 10.

Program Issues, Customer Support AWOL
If the product works for you, great. I had problems, and Corel’s “Customer Support” proved not just exasperating but likely damaging, and just possibly responsible for me having to buy a new computer. I’m going to truncate this a lot, because I have spent enough hours on dealing with this issue, but here are the bare bones of the matter (Corel, if you are watching, view tickets numbered 6493710 and 6494927, for which I have complete copies of all of the correspondence). I registered and started using Corel’s Pinnacle Studio Dazzle to edit family home movies and used it for about 10 days without problem. On February 8, 2021, I went to continue my work and was told that there was an update/patch I needed to install. I did so. When I tried to open the program again I received a message that I was not a registered user. I contacted Corel’s Customer Support (CS) chat and was given a long list of things to do that could correct the problem, and was given the option of handing off my computer for one of their techs (I’m keeping all names out of this) to take remote control. I did that. It seemed to be more complicated than they indicated, since it took him 1.5 hours to finally resolve it. Once he was able to get the program open for me, and I had tested the editing features successfully, he left. So far, so good. I used it to edit and tried to export the resulting edited video. The program froze. I shut down, restarted everything, and nothing ever changed. I would click export and get the spinning wheel of death. I wrote to CS right away on the 8th, and again on the 9th, when I was told nobody from that department was available at that moment, but someone would contact me soon. On the 10th I was asked for a screenshot of the error message, which I sent within 15 minutes. On the 11th I heard back from them, asking for me to generate some reports for them, which I did immediately. I did not hear from them that day or the next. I wrote on the 13th, again no response. I wrote on the 16th again, and they said my graphics driver was out of date. I pointed out that there was nothing wrong with the driver when I successfully edited and exported 48 videos prior to the registration error, and suggesting that the rebuild they did to correct that error might be the cause of my current problem. Three days of silence from Corel CS. On the 19th I wrote again (noting that I had spent almost the same number of days trying to get their program fixed, as the number I had been able to use it). On the 22nd CS sent me the SAME LONG LIST of things to do as they had upon hearing of my initial problem. I wrote that that looked like a standard response, not one for somebody who had already been through all of this. I received the same instructions. I told them I was done with them and to close the ticket. After a few more contentless back-and-forths, they closed the ticket on March 2nd. Less than two weeks later, my hard drive crashed. I don’t think that their CS’s messing around with my computer to fix the registration error caused the crash, but the timing is suspicious. However, in trying to clear up the initial problem their software had, it does certainly look like they caused the second problem with the program. The frustration that this caused, and for such a long time, will not be forgotten. Caveat emptor.

It's great when it actually works...
It took a lot of trial and error to actually get the software to work on Windows 10. There is apparently a patch, but I could never get that to work. I finally found an updated version of the software buried on Corel's website (see screenshot), and that seemed to do the trick! I transferred several family videos without issue. But then, life got in the way and the video transfer project got put on the back burner for a few weeks. Just came back to it last week and although I hadn't touched the software in the interim, it suddenly decided it wasn't going to work anymore. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software, and while it's working now, the audio is out of sync with the video and it's dropping a high number of frames. I tried it with a different VCR to see if that was causing the issue, but it made no difference. I'm a pretty tech savvy person and I've pulled out my hair trying to get this to work consistently. So pretty much, if you've just got a few videos to convert, you might be in luck using this device with the updated software. But if, like me, you've got boxes of old vids to transfer, you'll probably have better luck elsewhere.

IT WORKS!
After reading all the negative comments about this I was very worried that it would not work with my old Sony Camcorder Hi8 tapes and my newer computer with Windows 10. I am so glad I bought it from Amazon rather then from Pinnacle at a savings cost of $30.00. IT WORKS! I downloaded software - already had the proper plugs. It played immediately but rather than sit thru entire video I tested a portion. It worked so I deleted it and then did the transfer - Only negative is you have to watch entire video you are dubbing in REAL TIME which can take a long time but my videos were mostly under 30 minutes. Then I used my Sony Vega 9 Movie Studio program to trim it and burn to a DVD. And it played! I am so glad I don't have to return another product. Amazing. That's all I can say and these tapes are from 1992 thru 2000 when camcorders were not digitized yet with SD cards. Soooo happy!

Corel Dazzle Dvd Recorder Hd Video
It takes a little time to master it, but I was able to successfully copy video taped content and transfer it to a digital format. I highly recommend the product, but have a little patience when you begin!

Important to make sure computer matches the recommended hardware specification.
Works well with i5 intel generation 7 with upgrade to PinnacleStudio 24 No pdf manual with the PinnacleStudio 23 software supplied but once managed to access the support web site Pinnacle/Corel then able to obtain one. Manual's for both PinnacleStudio 24 and PinnacleStudio 23 well written and easy to follow once getting started.
