Flip Video Power Adapter

The main benefit of using this power adaptor for your rechargeable Flip Li-ion battery is the speed over the standard USB charging. And it can be a plus if you're traveling without a laptop or access to a computer. I use mine with my new 3rd generation Flip UltraHD without any overheating, as some customers have complained, and this may mean that earlier models had some design flaws.Pros: quick charging; small size (1 3/4" x 2 1/4" x 3/4" deep); green light to indicate power flow; ease of use; if used on a lower outlet, it doesn't block the other one.Cons: The Flip plugs in using the USB arm, so it has to hang on the outlet, not the most stable position.I've learned my lesson about not having enough power back-ups for my devices while I'm traveling, so I bought this one when I ordered the UltraHD. Yes, my UltraHD can take AAA batteries as a back-up; I just prefer to keep my battery pack inside my camera so I don't lose it. The connector's compact size is a plus but you might run into trouble charging your Flip from a wall socket.The two-prong folding connector works on standard 120v. The Flip connects to the bottom of the charger, which has a light that indicates it is charging. The connector works best with a power strip on a tabletop, so the camcorder's weight isn't hanging from the connector. According to the manual, the connector provides a full charge our Flip UltraHD in 3.5 hours and that matches our experience.Amazon's special holiday offer included two accessories with the purchase of a  Flip UltraHD Camcorder , so I chose this charger and the  Flip Tripod for Flip Ultra and Mino Camcorders . I purchased this as my wife's Christmas present but it never made it under the tree. She loves the Flip UltraHD.It would be better if the prongs pointed in more than one direction. This is a simple, easy-to-carry option when you don't want to use your computer's USB port to recharge the Flip.Rating: Four stars.

I got this charger with a promotion with my Flip Ultra HD. Even though this charger was designed for the Mino, I got it because it looked like it would be more useful than the other free accessories. Because the Flip Ultra HD's USB port comes out from the side rather than the top, I use an extension USB cable is it isn't hanging from its side. I've only used this a couple times to charge my Flip and it seems to work well. I haven't experienced any over heating, perhaps that is only and issue for the Mino. This charger didn't cost me anything so in that respect its worth it for me. I can also use it to charge other electronics. But if you're unable to get it for free than I suggest buying a third party charger which should work just as well if not better.

This works faster than using the PC 'however' I do run into a problem with getting it situated 'just right' in order for the charging to commence. I thought it was charging over night only to find that there was no charge at all the next morning. The other problem is how the USB connector sits...it doesn't allow you to see the screen of the Flip Video to see if its charging. The screen remains facing and almost flush the the outlet. I finally used a power strip to see if it was charging. Even with all of this manipulating I would still get it again for the simple reason that it charges so much faster than plugging it into our PC.

I was a bit concerned after reading all the reviews that this would not work for me. However, the one I bought from Amazon worked great. I also found it works great to re-charge my digital recorder (a bonus in my book).I did find that the rechargeable battery pack that came with my flip tends to not hold a charge for very long so I bought some rechargeable batteries and that seemed to solve the problem. I now carry extra batteries to make sure I am able to tape the events that I want (just in case my battery pack loses it's charge) but that is not the fault of the charger....it is a problem in the manufacturing of the charger pack.Just an update, this also works great to charge my digital recorder which saves me a tremendous amount of time. An excellent product.

Now I understand why Flip Video went under - it seems like such an amazing device but the only way to charge it is by plugging in the USB adapter into a computer? Seemed really strange and inconvenient, so I purchased this product but it is basically the same issue. Instead of being able to remove the battery and charge it separately (like if you purchased a back up battery, like me), the battery has to be in the device and then plugged in to a computer or this adapter through it's USB.This adapter did charge a little faster than plugging into a computer, and at least I could put it in my camera case instead of lugging around my computer, but it was still annoying because it was difficult finding a plug that would work to balance the device while it was plugged in (bathroom counter worked best because it could rest on the counter while charging).

This charger does the job exactly as it is intended to do. You plug in the Flip camera (less clumsy with a USB extension cord) and it charges the camera battery. What I don't understand is, why can this cannot be done with any USB power adapter? Perhaps there are some good reasons for that, but it means that I will have to keep track of my my Flip USB adapter (or buy one for the house, one for the car and one for each of my three workplaces) rather than pick up the nearest generic USB adapter. Interestingly, the Flip Mino does not seem to have this problem. So, a great little adapter/charger, as a frequent international traveler I am glad it handles international voltages, but I am not quite sure why it is necessary.

I actually gave this as a Christmas present to someone and she really likes it. She was tired of having so many connectors to charge her devices through her computer. Contrary to belief, the Flip Camera actually hangs on to the adapter while charging and does not fall off (which I expected it to do).

I recommend this product because it is very compact and great to use in tight areas. However it is easy to forget and leave it behind when you travel. That is why I bought 2.

Works exactly as advertized, it is great to be able to charge the battery without computer and much faster! An excellent buy.
