AcuRite 01015 Wireless Weather Station with Wind and Rain Sensor

Good unit, pretty accurate and fair value for the money. The unit I initially received had several problems - the outside temperature reading was defective (would start at correct temp and then continue to rise to its limit - near 100 and then lock there. There was also a problem with the rain guage - which I must say was partly an my installation error coupled with poor instructions. For shipping, there is a pin inserted into the guage's mechanism to keep it from moving. This pin is held in place with scotch tape which is labeled "remove before using". The tape also covers some air vents and so it appears that the purpose of removing the tape is to unblock the vents But when I removed the tape, the locking pin (which apparently had some of the tape's adhesive on it) remained in place. Strangely, I couldn't find any mention of this tape or locking pin in the user manual's installation instructions. Amazon replaced the unit (which had the temp problem anyway) and I found that the locking pin also stuck in place on the second, replacement unit. It was somewhat by luck that I discovered that the locking pin needs to be pulled out to get the rain guage to work. Finally, on the replacement unit I received, the outdoor hunidity sensor appears to be failing (always reads 99%). This is not a big issue for me and not worth returning the second unit for a third try. Despite these issues, I'm satisfied with the over all unit and would recommend it as a consumer-grade (definitely not professional grade) weather station.

I have had the 01015 weather station & indoor monitor for a couple of weeks. It replaced an Ambient 5300 unit that was returned because it almost never worked...would not communicate between outdoor sensor array and indoor display more than 2 or 3 times per day no matter how close or what obstructions were between them.The Acu-Rite 01015 has been flawless so far and readings seem to be quite accurate. Signal strength is extremely good. Installation was easy, taking about 20 minutes. I have temporarily mounted the outdoor array using a 4' wooden dowel (1" diameter) and 5 zip-ties to a fence post (quite sturdy, actually). The sensor array is only about 8' from the ground which somewhat compromises the wind speed measurement. Once I know everything will continue to work well, I will move it to my roof top. I will also buy the Acu-Rite internet bridge which will let me monitor conditions from almost anywhere using my iphone or computer as well as publish my backyard readings to Weather Underground.If you are really interested in a weather monitor in this price range, you can't beat Acu-Rite.

Installed in about an hour. The next day recorded multiple 25 mile an hour wind events that my old station would never do. Seems to be working better than expected. One note the sending unit needs to be on a very solid pole or very short to prevent the unit from swaying. It will give false rainfall readings. The display has a wealth of information, ticker is hard to read at distance. Backlight is a nice feature. I hope this unit last as long, and works as well as my previous Acu-Rite weather station. Will update this in a few weeks or if anything changes.UPDATE: The outdoor sensor quit working in about 11 months. I contacted ACURITE, and they replaced it. They were very helpful. Other than the sensor failing I am very pleased with the unit.

I just installed this weather station and with the Monsoon activity here in the Tucson area, this station is right on and it hasn't even gotten through the 14 day calibration yet. The system is 99% plug and play. You still have to set the time & date. The display is large and the readout is very clear. No, I am not a meteorologist and I am not expecting this station perform like a multi-thousand dollar professional system. But, we are talking about a back yard system here and it's excellent for the price being charged here. If I could think of ONE thing that would improve this system which will not downgrade my review, is that I wish it would mount to a standard TV mast instead of a board. In my opinion, you will not be disapointed with this weather station. The Weather Ticker is a nice bonus. Enjoy it :)

Unit arrived promptly in perfect condition. Initial setup was easy, and the rainfall measurement test procedure went off without a hitch - no recalibration required. Installation on the roof mast was a little tricky; but completed in an hour or so. Unit has now been in use for 10 days, and all readings seem to be reasonably accurate. A check on the overnight low temperature reading was done by comparison with a mercury min-max thermometer, and produced equal results. I did have to remount the monitor when I found that it is most easily read if located a little below normal eye level; but otherwise the display is very sharp and clear, The available blue backlight makes night viewing perfectly clear. After a month's use, no complaint's with this unit; but it is important to make sure to mount the unit securely, as any wind shake will result in a rainfall reading on the monitor, even though it isn't raining. Also, slow barometric movement either rising or falling will show as Steady on the monitor - although the pressure readings are quite accurate. Still rate it at a 5.

Got this product around three months back. The delivery was super fast and kudos to seller for that as this was imported from NY, USA.The initial setup was easy but the unit needed calibration for temperature and humidity. The rain guage was okay out of the box and I haven't calibrated it.The unit goes into learning mode for 14 days after first startup or when you reset it. But even after that the barometric pressure is way off and thats the only gripe I have and hence one star less for it. There's also no way found to manually adjust it.But overall a nice gadget to have.

Doing what is expected of it and it seems to be very accurate. The display is nothing thrilling and seems a bit antiquated given all the newer technology out there but suitable for this price point I guess. If it was at least in colour would be improvement and just look better in the house. Easy to install and get going. Will have to see how it stands up to a western Canadian winter.

After the winter have installed the unit! Installation was very basic and setup was well explained in the manual. Sync to base was easy and was flawless in operation! The only modification I made was to drill the outside mount and use a size 8 stainless screw. The unit is working beautifully and am very impressed! Thank you Acurite!!!D. McKinnon
