Great Jumpstarter for Deep Litter Method
I use the Deep Litter method of chicken coop management. You put in 12 inches of pine shavings, and let them stay in place. You stir in the top layer every few days or once a week, depending on how many birds you have and size of space, I just use a 3-tined rake I keep in the coop. The Deep Litter method actually composts your chicken poo in place, so you don't have to clean out the coop all the time. In our climate, which is in the South USA and very mild winters, the composting action continues all winter. In colder places, the composting might pause during the colder winter. The composting pause can mean that people in colder climates have to still clean out their coops more than those in warmer climes, but we're talking once or twice a year. Overall, no smells, it's wonderful. Super clean, probiotically active, the birds love it too. And no work! However, we moved during the winter and had to start with brand-new pine shavings in a new location. I should have brought shavings from the old coop to jump start the composting action in the new one, but didn't think of it. So point is, the Deep Litter was having a hard time getting the composting started. I bought DOOKASHI in order to jumpstart my Deep Litter system. And, it totally worked. I'll keep this on hand in case the composting action ever gets out of balance again, and it never hurts to refresh the probiotics.Recommend folks try this product along with trying Deep LItter method. You will love how little work, how in long run you spend so much less money on pine shavings. And the coop smells fresh, no more battles with the weekly chore of cleaning it out. Great for refreshing my coop!
I have been using this product for 2 years in Northern Minnesota. Every time I add more pine shavings I sprinkle some DooKashi in there first underneath the new shavings. Odors disappear! The chickens do eat a bit of it and love it. I love the fresh air in my coop. I do still change out the entire bedding and scrub the coop house twice a year. A little bit of DooKashi goes a long way, so the price I pay is worth it. This product is so helpful in the winter when wind chills are way BELOW ZERO such that I have to keep the coop closed up for awhile. I don't know why some folks say the product is stinky. Anyway any aroma of the product dissipates quickly.

FANTASTIC PRODUCT!!
I use this product for my baby chicks and my older chicks in separate brooders. I clean the baby chick's brooder every 3 days, and I clean the older chick's brooder once a week. It does its job by keeping ammonia levels down. I sprinkle it on the bare floor of the brooders first, Then I put a thick layer of bedding, and then I sprinkle more Dookashi on top of the bedding. What I like most about this product is that it is made of all edible products. The chicks can eat it without any worry of doing harm to them. I don't know how it will fare in a coop, for I'm not at that stage with my chicks yet. I highly reccomend this product for anyone that is raising chickens from little chicks.

Amazing product helps freshen my coop
As a first time keeper of laying hens I am very impressed with this product. I sprinkle a couple of cups in my 10 by 6 foot coop every couple of weeks and add some more pine shavings and straw on top of the DooKashi powder. The coop smells quite fresh. Thanks to this product I won't have to completely empty and clean the coop as often as I would otherwise. I simply clean the roosting areas daily and let the hens go outside as they chose during daylight hours. Hens need to breathe fresh air not stinky ammonia air to stay healthy.

Very effective and easy to use!
I have 5 adult hens. I use deep litter method with Hemp bedding in their coop where they spend the night cozy and secure (8 ft by 8 ft raised coop). I use First Saturday Lime in their coop (sprinkled generously monthly on their bedding); I rake and flip over their bedding about every 2-3 days; I lightly sprinkle a couple handfuls of Dookashi in their coop about every 2-3 weeks. No odors. No flies or pests! Simple and very effective! Happy, healthy one year old hens laying beautiful eggs daily!

Chickens eat it, not much of a benefit if you clean your coop.
This really is pricey for the amount...and the frustrating thing is my chickens run right in to eat it up when I throw it in! I guess I appreciate that it is all natural. But I even tried applying it with them out of the coop and they found it as soon as they got back in. I have found no difference in coop odor ( I generally keep a clean coop for my 6 gals). I won't bother with this one in the future but may try similar products.

Interesting smell
This stuff works great! It has an interesting smell. I can’t say I don’t like it and I can say I do. It’s for my chicken coop. It does just like they say. It just takes a very small amount of this stuff. It does help with the decomposition. The chickens have ate some of it and as they say it will not hurt them. I will definitely continue to use this in my coop. I do the deep litter method and it’s nice to give a little extra every now and then.
