Pedigree PGDS32 Long Handled Stainless Steel Treaded Digging Spade

Handle on top start being shaky already after just few uses.So quite disappointing for such premium product :(

I like the length, weight and feel of this spade but haven't tried it out yet - as it arrived with the handle cracked through.The grip had split horizontally (all the way through) and one of the glued joints had fully separated (you can see daylight through it.)I've asked for a replacement and sent this one back. Usual pain returning things to Amazon - since it was delivered with Prime (and late!), why can't it be returned as well?

A gift

This is a wonderfully well-made and sturdy spade. The blade itself has a keen edge to it which means it cuts into the ground with ease. The real innovation for me is the way that it curls over at the top, providing a lip for you to step down on, meaning that the top of the spade doesn't cut into your wellies. I can't tell you what a difference that makes. So much easier and more comfortable. This model has a longer handle than a standard spade, suiting the taller gardener but not being impractical if you're not that tall. It looks well crafted, with a comfortable and sturdy handle. Time will tell if it lasts.

The main thing to notice is that this is an extra-long spade and is correspondingly heavier. Although I am not particularly tall, I liked this because it provides more leverage. But you need to decide if it’s right for you.The quality is good and so are its looks (although I never bothered about the aesthetics of garden tools).The treads are a good feature, avoiding discomfort and damage to your boots. In fact, after using a spade with treads, you’ll be loath to go back to one without.All in all, a robust, quality product that should serve you well, provided you are happy with the extra length of the handle.

My last couple of spades have been bought end of season from our local supermarket in their sale. They last a couple of years hard labour and then it’s time for the bin. You can tell straight away this Pedigree spade is a huge step up in terms of quality. The steel blade and socket are attached to the shaft using 4 rivets. The blade and socket are all one piece of solid steel. This looks like it will last for many years. The top of the blade has a curved platform about an inch in width which will give extra support and comfort to your feet when using it. At over £30 there are cheaper spades out there but it terms of quality I think it’s great value for money.

A very well made spade, super for the taller person, comes with great slip resistant tread so you can use your foot on it comfortably. Very pleased makes work much easier.
