How to tell when the canister is running low?

The air doesn’t come out as strong, it’s much weaker & shorter bursts. You can definitely tell when the cab is getting empty. Ultimately you will press it and nothing comes out (after slowly losing pressure). So you will know when it’s getting low & time to replace. Maybe that previous person didn’t use the entire can? I think I’ve used 3 so far- it’s like an inhaler, you just can tell when it’s starting to get low because you don’t get as much oxygen & it doesn’t come out as strong. I hope that helps!!

As a pilot who plans on flying at a higher altitude than normal (Wa-> CO) would this work for some sort of supplemental oxygen?

You need to have special O2 according to §25.1441 in the FAR/AIM. I would recommend calling your local FSDO to get the correct type. Also consider planning your route under 12500, as above 12500 only requires you to have supplemental O2 when above that altitude for 30 min or more in an unpressurized aircraft.
