Powerful-Long last Battery-Very Loud
Very powerful and long lasting battery. Easily cuts through the toughest wood. Motor is very loud though. Recommend not using without hearing protection.

PROs and CONs - DeWalt = Quality
One of the many reasons I love DeWalt is that their tools all play nicely together like a well-behaved family reunion. I own several DeWalt tools, and not a single one has let me down. Drills, framers, brad nailers, circular saws, impact wrenchesโand now this sawโall run on the same 20V Max batteries. Translation: one charger, a rotating cast of batteries, and zero time spent hunting for โthat other charger.โ I bought this saw for a very specific mission: take down a fence without turning the fence panels into abstract art. The goal was to cut the posts and keep everything intactโand this saw absolutely nailed it (sometimes literally). It sliced through wood and nails like they owed it money, and I felt completely safe the whole time. Is it heavy? Yes. Is that a bad thing? Absolutely not. This thing has โbuilt like a tankโ energy. The weight screams durabilityโlike I could accidentally drop it off a roof, apologize to it, and keep working. Itโs also loud, but letโs be honestโฆ if a saw wasnโt loud, Iโd be concerned. Silence would mean something has gone terribly wrong. Setup is incredibly simpleโso simple that even a child could figure it out (though maybe donโt hand it to one). Pros: โข Itโs DeWaltโquality is a given โข Powerful enough to chew through wood and nails without breaking a sweat โข Built from solid materials that feel borderline indestructible Cons: โข Honestlyโฆ not many Do yourself a favor and buy this saw if youโre in the market. Your fence wonโt stand a chanceโbut exactly the way you want it to. ๐

Great buy on a quality tool.
I bought this recipro saw โused like new.โ It truly was like new in the original box, with zero evidence it was ever actually used. The box was a little mangled, so maybe thatโs why it was so heavily discounted. I fitted a landscape pruning blade and this thing rips through 3 inch branches easily. The only downside is it also rips through batteries. I have 2 20 volt batteries, which extended my pruning time perfectly. I previously used a cheap corded recipro saw from HF, which fell apart after two seasons of pruning. This tool feels like it is built to last, just like all my other Dewalt tools.

Not bad for what you pay for
Pretty useful, used harbor freight blades and works great. Youโll get your moneys worth.

A practical recip saw if you are already in the DeWalt 20V system
A practical recip saw if you are already in the DeWalt 20V system I bought this as a bare tool about three months ago to round out a DeWalt 20V MAX setup I have been building for years โ I already run the DCK286D2 drill and impact combo and the DCB112 charger, so this dropped straight in on batteries and chargers I already owned. That is the real reason to buy this particular saw. If I were starting from nothing, a Milwaukee M18 Sawzall would be just as worth a look, and plenty of people would say it cuts a touch more aggressively. But I am not starting from nothing, and buying into a second battery platform to chase a small difference makes no sense. Spend years with one system and you learn that battery compatibility is worth more than spec-sheet bragging. The power is honest for what it is โ a brushed 20V motor. It pushed through a tree section about ten inches thick without bogging down or overheating, which is more than I expected from a brushed tool. It also takes framing lumber, nail-embedded wood, and PVC in stride. Here is where the brushed motor shows its limit. On thick hardwood or long continuous cuts it slows down, and that is not a flaw so much as physics โ a brushed motor gives up some efficiency and sustained torque to a brushless one, so it runs out of steam sooner under a heavy, unbroken load. For demo, pruning, and general renovation cuts it has plenty. For all-day hardwood ripping it is the wrong tool, and a brushless saw is what you want. The 4-position blade clamp earns its keep for flush cuts in tight framing. Tip: seat the blade fully and feel it lock โ if it is not all the way in, you get a little play under load, and on a recip saw play means a snapped blade or a wandering cut. Battery life tracks with what you feed it; a 5Ah pack carries most jobs, smaller packs fade faster under continuous cutting. The honest mark against it is vibration. On longer cuts it builds in the grip, and after extended demo work you feel it. It is not bad for a brushed saw in this class, but it is real, and it is the main reason this lands a strong rating rather than a top one. For the way I actually use it โ yard cleanup, renovation, the occasional stump โ it has earned its spot in the kit.

Good product
Works just as any other DeWalt tool that I've bought elsewhere and got it for a fraction of the price on Amazon

DeWalt 20V max tools are the best
DeWalt 20V Max tools are the best. Absolutely incredible value for the $$$. The reciprocal saw is the pinnacle of DeWalt quality and comfort. I use this saw at least twice a week around the house and my two hunt properties. I cut down trees and tree limbs with it with ease. The only drawback is that it does deplete the battery quickly. I bought extra batteries and usually go into the woods with three fully charged batteries. But, for my old body, it sure beats using a chainsaw or hand saw to cut things down. it is a little heave, but that is because it is built like a tank. I expect this saw to last me for YEARS!

You will be so happy with this addition to your tools!
My husband has become a big DeWalt fan over the last few years, and he finally decided to get this saw. Now heโs wondering why he waited so long! Itโs incredibly sturdy, powerful, and very easy to use. He used to cut palm branches in our backyard with a hand saw, which often left him with cuts and scratches on his arms. Thankfully, thatโs now a thing of the past. That was the main reason we bought it, but heโs already discovered several other uses for it as well. Weโre very happy with this purchase!

As far as I know ... This is the least expensive DeWALT full size cordless reciprocating saw
There is a VAST ARRAY for DeWALT Reciprocating Saws for sale!! There are ones with fancy electronics to match the 8AH XR tabless Powerpack batteries. Some have a bit different shape, there's special really short stubby ones, and some mini "Atomic" one handed ones, that look interesting! But this one (DCS380B) has the best price AND the exact same, 4-position blade, tool-free blade changes ,1-1/8-inch stroke, and 0-3000 Strokes per Minutes, as all the fancy ones. I'd guess with the fancy ones battery will last longer, and they might have a bit more power too ... If I really need the extra power I'll drag out on of my the old 120 VAC corded tools But so far I have gone through 3 blades and this has PLENTY of power! For tight spaces? I use my old fashioned "jig saw" They have much less height if you need that for some cuts .. and everyone has one or two of them around the shop somewhere. .. And if I need more POWER in heavy pipe or angle iron?? I use the torches :) LOL they are cordless too remember!! I paid $128 (Canadian) So $95 USA$ .. for this one in May 2025, I checked with DeWALT and it's not being discontinued as of yet. If you use Reciprocating Saws a lot, or are looking for the first one? .... I'd grab one of there they are so inexpensive, but still a DeWALT 20 V Max full quality tool!! EDIT: I forgot to mention this tool is NOT "brushless" The motor is old school carbon brush design that requires removal of 7 Screws -- to take off the service cover -- to replace the brushes (like after 4 or 5 year of heavy use)
