Mug Cakes: Ready in Five Minutes in the Microwave

I have given several of these books to friends for presents and they were excited to try some of the recipes. Can be easily adapted to using own ingredients.

Great book. I’ve given two as gifts.

These are a great idea. I make my own vanilla sugar with vanilla beans from Penskys and they wind up cheap to make too. YOu never make too much because you make them one at a time. There are lots of cakes, but I find only 3 really appeal to me.

Bought this for my 10 year old grandson who likes to cook in the microwave. He loves it, as does his mother. A lot of great recipes.

Bought this for my 15 yr old.......she loves to make something from this book once or twice a week after school. Recipies are easy to follow with many ingrediants already in your pantry

Great book with wonderful recipes for one or two people

I gave this book as a gift with the "My Cup of Cake Souffle" this year and it was very well received.

This book has great recipes. but good luck finding the ingredients, and some aren't available in the America. Vanilla sugar? Carambar? Crunchy hazlenut spread? Beyond things you can't find, the ingredients are still too varied and complex ("blanched almonds cut into rounds," what?) It seems to me that the point of mug cakes is to make something quick and easy with what is in your cupboard. Actually, that's the second sentence in the book, but it doesn't really do that at all. If you want to make something fancy with lots of effort, maybe make a real cake?

So I love cake but as a single person don't bake because otherwise I have a whole cake to eat. This solves the problem. I've tried a few recipes so far and found that even the most useless baker (me) can do it and get a cake out at the end that is pretty good. I must say I bought a specific "mug cake" mug to do these in which really helps as if you have too smaller mug you get massive overflow in the microwave. Downsides - most of the recipes have different ingredients once you get past the flour, sugar, egg, milk etc. So you will need to stock up on some baking supplies. But I would suggest trying a simple one first and then build up from there. I have had a couple overspills which is a pain in the butt to clean up - but I will adjust the recipe slightly next time. When they come out, some of them look really ugly but a sprinkle of icing sugar will hide that. Upsides - you get a light fluffy cake in a mug in 3-5 minutes. Most of the recipes work exactly. You don't have to be a baker to get a cake out it. Good selection of recipes to try including some mug biscuits. One major warning - you may end eating way too much cake but it is so easy to do!

What a great idea! Cakes in a mug! The recipes are lovely, more aimed to adults than younger people though I thought. The one thing I didn't like was the type size. It was quite small, and if you're a regular baker - you'll appreciate that larger text is easier to follow when you have your hands full of sugar and flour and have your recipe propped up on the windowsill! Still, it's a cute little book and would make a nice gift.

Fantastic idea! Great for students. I have not tried any of the recipes as it is a gift, but they look great.
