A privileged perspective on the Peshmerga of Iraqi Kurdistan.
This small book gives the average reader a privileged perspective into the Peshmerga of Iraqi Kurdistan. Having worked beside these fierce warriors is one of the greatest lessons of my military life. The Pesh put the lie to all anti-Muslim messages. I am proud to say I fought beside them. This is a great story of an American soldier that learned to love and respect them for who they really are.

A part of the Iraq war we never heard
As is often, the things we hear about a military action is often over glorified, if it ever passed the censors.

Mark gave a fantastic account from his sole and unique perspective
Mark gave a fantastic account from his sole and unique perspective and the true hell and brotherhood that comes from war. His vivid descriptions and attention to detail give the reader all the sense of smell, vision and tactile sense of being in the Sargot Valley.I truly believe Mark and his Green Beret brethren are the finest people this country has ever produced.David Parrish

Short History of the war in Iraq
I was truly enjoying the read. I was stunned by the fact Iraq has mountains and snow. I was amazed at how sophisticated the Kurds are compared to Adghans. Sadly, the book was over before i knew it. Apparently, i needed to read the description a little better.

DOL Brother!
I enjoyed taking a journey back through this extraordinary battle through the eyes of the writer. This is the most vivid and well written accounts of Operation Viking Hammer I have read. While reading the pages, I immediately recalled the sights, sounds, and smells just like it had happened last week. Retracing those footsteps brought back some amazing yet unforgettable memories. DOL brother!

Real, gritty, dirty, visceral, unfiltered. Not a fairytale view of war.
Written from the first personal perspective of the author as he embeds with, and fights alongside Kurdish forces in Northern Iraq.It starts off with the battle for Sargat and the takes you back to cover infiltrating Iraq and embedding with the PUK forces.

Entertaining with insights into the gory aspects of war
- short & entertaining- does not trivialize the horrors of war- beware of some gorey details, describing the aftermath of the operation
