A shackle, also known as a gyve, is a U-shaped piece of metal secured with a screw pin across the opening. Shackles are the primary connecting link in all manner of rigging systems, from boats and ships to industrial crane rigging, as they allow different rigging subsets to be connected or disconnected quickly. As with any threaded shackle, threads can gall if overtightened or have been corroding in salty air. A liberal coating of lanolin or a heavy grease is not out of place on any and all shackel threads, including marine grade 316 stainless steel ones. The pin has a hole in it so that the small shackle can be moused. This is done by looping mousing wire through the hole in the pin and around the shackle body. A D shackle is sometimes called a chain shackle. A d-shackle is narrower than a bow or anchor or clevis shackle and generally have a threaded pin or pin close. The smaller loop is designed to take high loads primarily in line. Side and racking loads may twist or bend a D or chain shackle. 316 marine grade stainless steel contains molybdenum, which makes it more resistant to salty ocean water mist or spray. Type 316 stainless D shakle equipment is ideal for sailing and yacht dring rigging uses. 316 stainless is superior to galvanized and a heavy duty solution to corrosion.

Nice product. Well made, threads are clean. I used them along with paracord to make grab handles for my Jeep. They are strong and hold up well. Good value too.
