Beautiful wood, excellent kit. Includes cleaning cloth, basic instruction manual (with links to videos, some easy songs, and further resources available), 3 sticker sheets for labeling the keys if you so want, a bag for all the extra goodies, plus a very sturdy carrying case for the kalimba + tuning hammer. This set is both affordable and satisfyingly complete for a beginner. I'm having a lot of fun learning and transcribing! The wood is beautiful and the instrument is good quality, especially for its price range. As for sound quality: It has a beautiful music-box sound and reverb. There are two holes in the back that can be used for some tone range and vibrato. I did notice that some of the higher keys (B5, C6, D6, E6) become hard to hear and need to be played with either more thumb-force and at the very edge of the key to sound nice. The penultimate keys on both ends (B5 and C6) don't play very cleanly, as in: I can hear some overtones and even some adjacent keys sounding when I play them. I have tried to fix this with the tuning hammer and by shifting the keys a little, but so far, there isn't a good fix. It's not a huge issue in the end, especially for what I paid. All-in-all, an amazing purchase! I'm learning a lot about modal forms and transcribing with this instrument, so I'm advancing my music knowledge with a much more portable (and affordable) instrument than a piano. This kalimba exceeded my expectations. The sound is rich and resonant, perfect for relaxation and meditation sessions. Keys are well tuned out of the box and the included hammer makes adjustments easy when needed. Build quality feels solid with smooth key action. The protective case is genuinely waterproof and compact enough for travel. Study materials are helpful for beginners, showing finger placement and basic songs to start with. Sound projects nicely without being too loud for apartment living. Keys are comfortable to play and don't leave your thumbs sore after longer sessions. The wood finish looks elegant and the engraved design adds a nice touch. Great value for both beginners wanting to learn and experienced players looking for a reliable instrument. Makes an excellent gift too.

I bought this for my nine-year old niece who, after playing around with my Hugh Tracey kalimbas expressed an interest. As with other reviewers I was quite pleasantly surprised. The quality of this instrument is quite comparable to the Hugh Tracey treble, at less than 1/3 the cost (compare: $140 for a Hugh Tracey treble). You can find cheaper kalimbas in the $10-$30 range, but most of them are poorly made, and little better than toys. This, on the other hand, is a real musical instrument. The build is solid, the wood smooth and nicely finished, and the tines are well-shaped and chrome finished. The hardware is basically the same as that used on Hugh Tracey instruments. The tone is bright and rich, and the expression holes on the back side make special effects easy. This is one of those instruments that is quite appropriate for everyone from beginners to pros. A newbie can easily be picking out a tune on one of these in a few minutes, but with some dedication, advanced players will find the instrument lends itself to complexities limited only by their imagination. Especially nice with this package are the little extras that come with it: a hardshell case (these can be hard to find separately); a tuning hammer; polishing cloth; and note-indicator stickers for the tines, if you are so inclined. There is also a small book of tunes in kalimba tablature. Really, you're not going to find better for this price. Recommended.

This is very beautiful! I got it when I saw another review play the avatar theme. It was quite easy to watch and play it. Simple to play but to get a rich sound, it takes a couple minutes of practice. After practicing, It is cool to play chords by sliding your thumb to hit 3 at a time. The case is wonderful for if you want to travel, it keeps it very padded. The back has holes that you can cover and open to make a vibrato and that is the hardest part of playing in my opinion but it sounds great! I took a star away because the middle tones sound so rich and beautiful, where the 4 most end keys are very twingy, I don’t even bother to play them so it doesnt feel like a true 17 key kalimba. I have tried adjusting them a bit, but still can’t get a rich beautiful sound like the middle tones. I would still recommend this because it was a great price and soothing.

I've always admired the kalimba, but when I decided to get one for myself, Amazon was extremely daunting. I had 18 tabs open trying to pro-con each model of kalimba and eventually settled for this one because of the durable case and because the video of Remember Me that sounded so pure and beautiful. I was delighted with the extremely fast shipping, and I've barely put it down since it arrived. I would HIGHLY recommend this kalimba to ANYONE, and if you're currently indecisive like I was, I would suggest this one to you. The sound is so incredibly clear, the case is extremely protective (and this zipper is sooo smooth) and I'm extremely happy overall with my purchase. I can tell this product is going to last a long long time. Tuning it was easy and straightforward. (I recommend the Universal Tuner app) One thing I'd say is important to know is that the stickers shown on the keys (numbers and notes) do not come adhered to the kalimba as I had assumed from the picture. I don't think this is a con at all, I was able to put on the stickers exactly how I wanted them, but it's good to note that this took a fair amount of time and some intricate work with scissors to make sure they fit on right. I'm a bit worried that they'll come off, I accidentally bent the A applying it and it's looking a bit peely already, but I believe it comes with extras for each letter and number, which makes me feel way better :) All in all, if you're having trouble picking out the kalimba of your dreams, GO GECKO. Best decision I've made in a while. Smooth and beautiful with a GORGEOUS sound. Love this kalimba from the bottom of my heart already.

Sounds great and we really appreciate the carrying case. Very useful when you have small children in the house. Very well finished and easy to enjoy.

I have been watching vides on YouTube and decided to purchase another Kalimba for myself. The first one I have is from Africa, made from a gourd and, while authentic, does not hold a candle to this beautiful little thumb piano made by Gecko!! You get a lot for the money too: a very well-made Kalimba, carrying case, tuning hammer, instructions and stickers if you choose to label the keys. You will have so much fun with it. When I opened it and strummed a few notes, the melody was so fantastic I was immediately drawn and played with it for about an hour. I'm only an amateur player but I can tell that the tuning of this instrument is spot on. I believe this beautiful sound would make babies stop crying and be calming to animals, and even if you have anxiety. This is the best $40 bucks I have ever spent!!!

The instrument also looks beautiful. I recommend this, even if you're starting out with the instrument for the first time. It sounds lovely.
