A Ton of Colorful Basic Bricks for Imaginative Building
Terrific set of basic Lego bricks, with emphasis on bricks. That's exactly what I got this set for, but you should know that going in. There are relatively few plate pieces here, and it doesn't contain any very large baseplates or Technic style bricks or pieces.A strong draw is the fantastic array of colors, and there are enough multiples in all the colors to allow for some symmetry in building. There is a smaller selection of sloping pieces and tile pieces, but they are very welcome, and it's nice to get some of these pieces in bright colors. Included is a bunch of wheels/tires in different sizes to allow for some variety in vehicle building, but if this is the only set you own, its great strength may be in the construction of houses and buildings, and you get a few doors, windows, and flowers for that, though the omission of any real tree or shrubbery pieces is too bad. There are also no figures included. The inclusion of a couple even fairly generic figures and a tree or two would really have helped to bring a lot of life to the set.It comes with a small booklet showing 10 constructions, with full instructions for 5 of them, but it is meant to be a springboard. This is a set for imaginative building, with more than enough pieces to allow for tons of creations and could even be used by several builders at once.Overall, this is a great starting set and may include everything a casual Lego builder might ever need. It also works well (as in my case) as a beefy supplement to add much needed chunky style bricks to the more eccentric and specialized pieces you'll find in the sets with dedicated builds.

Quality starter kit with the "basics"
Awesome, comprehensive, and colorful set of Legos. Perfect as a starter kit. The price is a little staggering, but if you start looking in retail shops and online - and you aren't currently familiar with the world of Lego - I assure you that Legos are simply expensive. If you are lazy like me and didn't want to go through the trouble of finding 'starter' Legos at a garage sale or Craig's list -- get this set and just know it is $$ well spent. This set is visually stunning - the colors are marvelous (which is a departure from the Lego kits of yesteryear). The set is comprised mostly of 'basic' blocks that will be used again and again for standard, entry level projects, lots of varying sized wheels, and doors/windows. There are some neat pieces so you can build the projects in the book that is provided as well. My only bugaboo is there weren't enough roof pieces. Anyway, our 3yo was all over this set and the ~$90 will buy us several hours of non-TV, non-iPad quiet (HA!).

Lots of pieces, plus essential extras
This set was quite a bit cheaper as an initial base set than other options. The advantage to something like this over a bulk brick set from another supplier is that this set includes sets of wheels in various sizes, a couple windshields, a seat and steering wheel, house doors, windows, etc. I purchased a larger base LEGO Classic Green Baseplate Supplement alongside the set, but my son and I rarely use it. Most of our building is focused on making things with wheels and the bases included in this box are great for this purpose.I purchased this along with the Lay-n-Go mat Lay-n-Go Cinch Activity Mat, Black/Blue, 44". The mat easily holds the 1500 pieces in this set. I would recommend it if you can stomach the extra cost, as the cleanup goes from 10 minutes to 10 seconds.

Many, many legos.
This is a lot of legos. Santa delivered these to our kids this Christmas, and they have played with them for hours. This is a great addition to existing sets, and also great for kids with imaginations - it doesn't come with instructions, you have to come up with your own designs. Note, the box doesn't function as a storage box, you need a plastic bin or something to keep the legos in.There is a wide range of colors and shapes in this kit. They are packaged by color in smaller bags inside the larger box. I would recommend this product for lego lovers. it is also more cost effective than buying smaller kits/boxes.

Best gift we have EVER given our grand daughters!
Purchased this for our 2 ( and 11mos) and 5 year old grand daughters. They play with this all the time. We visited them for dinner and all of us, four adults and the two girls sat around the dinner table building projects. The five year old can't wait to get home from school so she can build with them. I was concerned that the 2 year old wouldn't play with them, but this isn't the case. At almost 3, she can put together the larger pieces and enjoys her masterpieces! Only drawback, there are tons of small pieces and we wish there were more of the 'standard' brick pieces and thus only 4 stars.

Great set, but I'll be honest...
Great set, but I'll be honest- I expected the set to be bigger for the price. Not a complaint, just an observation. I was aware that it was 1500 pieces, but just expected a bigger/more full box of Legos for the better part of $100. I now know that Legos are pretty expensive! My 3-year-old loves these and dad and I can sit on the floor with him for hours making different cool things. So fun and such a great way to bond with your kiddo and get them talking. My son is a little chatterbox when we're playing with Legos- I love it! Get this set and stay busy for hours and hours.

Good Size
This is a great set, the boy, age 10, can actually use his imagination to build things. Before this gift all of his Legos were those expensive kits that they assemble once, then it just takes up space sitting there. He has really gotten into building all sorts of things and engaging his thinking skills. I also purchased Lego Education Wheels set and Klutz book of Chain Reactions for Legos. Turned out to be the perfect combo to invent all sorts of machines. I am hoping he continues to create and explore with these sets.

Legos are good for gifts.
Kids really enjoyed playing with the numerous pieces that are in the box. Overall, is a good started lego box for kids to learn and get used to how to build things with lego.
