A very satisfying and enjoyable stand-alone.
Seller: Cloudtail IndiaPrice: Rs. 392Rating: 4.5 ⭐The book arrived in perfect condition and delivery was quick. Excellent service by Amazon. As for the book itself I really enjoyed it. It is Sanderson's deput and therefore his weakest, but even still it is amazing. I love Sanderson's unique magic systems and his brilliant world building. The magic system in this one is no exception despite how little of it we see for most of the book. The characters were great. I loved our protagonists. Sarene is smart, strong, witty and resilient. Raoden was great to follow too though I loved Sarene more. Hrathen's POV was very intersting. His doubts regarding his religion added depth to his personality. This book is more political than Sanderson's other works and I loved the political intrigue. It added a lot of twists to the plot and challenges for the characters to overcome.I do want to mention that Sanderson's prose is very straightforward. If you enjoy beautiful or flowery writing, that may be an issue, but I personally didn't mind it because of his skill in other aspects of storytelling.

Joy is more than just an absence of discomfort. Totally recommend it!
The book came on time and brand new condition.About the review of the book itself , this is my very first Brandon Sanderson book. Oh god, I just adore this book so much! It was one of the best books I've read. Though this book doens't get much appreciation as it's worth."Do not dash if you only have the strength to walk and do not waste your time pausing on walls that will not give. And more importantly do not shove where a pat would be sufficient"It's told in multipIe perspective, so wonderfully written... I just need can't stop praising the book .The story is based on elemental magic and there's a lot of political intrigue and it's captivating. The story follows 3 perspective, one is the young crowned prince who undergoes transformation and is thrown out of the city because of it, two is the princess who was set to marry the prince , but his transformation would have been dubbed as death and made her widow and third is the priest who while trying to change two countries , is questioning himself and his faith. The women co- lead is portrayed so will, she's well educated, very good spokesperson and very knowledgeable and has quick wit. But all these qualities in her are hardly appreciated ,expect for her father and the prince and few others. She is always tormented by the fact that she didn't fit anywhere and she's respected only because she's a princess which she loathes. But she is one true patriot who does everything she can to save her country. The protagonist , crowned prince is so very good, very clever , carrier of hope love and generosity. Though he's thrown out (presumed dead by the others) to the dirty city of Elantris , he strives to establish a better life for the people their also trying to find out the reason for their transformation. The other perspective is of a religious man who is the antogonist , has descended in the city to convert the people to his religion through peaceful process. He plans for a peaceful transition of religion. He's not very harsh or cruel as most antogonists. Rather tries all the diplomatic channels and peaceful processes and nonviolent for his purpose. It's normal paced and doesn't slow down anywhere , carries in one flow. The world building is done beautifully and there's good character development also. All in all just a perfect read!! Totally recommend it .

a rare standalone fantasy
A solid 4.5 starred book, gosh.Things I liked:1.Really well developed main characters2.Hrathen, his grayness was frankly such a delight to read.3.The politics were pretty awesome!4.Raoden is such a good character, he’s not quite the typical hero but it works out5.Sarene is so well written, her flaws work wonderfully with her political mind and feminist views.6.A really well developed world, I always fall for that, ok? World-building is my weakness along with strong characters. This won both those points.Things I disliked:1.I am not sure if there are things I could strongly dislike about it.2.However, I guess, some people might not care for the length of the book. Sanderson is famous for that, I guess.3.I am sure that the more I read Sanderson’s books, the more fault I might find with this one because that seems to be trend but for now, this is it. Frankly, I really enjoyed the book and I won't feel bad for it.

Incredible!
Firstly, the book was delivered in a perfect condition. Secondly, the quality of the book, i.e, the pages is very good. The font size is exact and readable. Personally, I love the cover of the book. Thirdly, the story made me fall in love with Brandon Sanderson. It is an amazing story. The pace of the plot is perfect. The world of Elantris is so mesmerising. Brandon did a brilliant job. It was his first novel and he nailed it. I have completed reading it and have also preplanned to read it once again in 2017. I would love to read this book again and again. Moreover, I love the characters of this story - some of them are -Raoden, Sarene, Galladon etc. The way Brandon described everything is worth a huge round of applause!!!

Must read!!!
The book was in decent condition with very little damage on the edges.Given that it was Brandon Sanderson's very first fantasy novel....it's not as bad as people exaggerate it to be. It does gets quirky at times but not the worst read by any means.Edit: After reading the whole novel, I can't recommend it enough 🥲. Loved it❤️

Good read, the end, however, was a bit stretched.
The plot and characters were nice, however, i could not be as invested in them as the stormlight archive. Still a good read.

I am SOOO happy I found this book.
► The quick overview for those browsing:Genre: FantasyRecommended: Yes, very much!Language: Very Mild (includes things like damnation, and maybe "hell" but not often)Sex Scenes: noneStory Quality: Very Good!World Building: ExcellentCharacter Development: ExcellentReal-World Politics or Allegory: Little to None (Excellent)Violence: There are some violent scenes, though usually brief and bloodless (as Elantrians can't bleed). However, the worst one is when they stumble into the middle of a human sacrifice. The bloody sacrifice is already dead, and the scene that describes it is brief, but might be a little too dark for youths.Age Suggestion: 18+ (Previously mentioned human sacrifice scene. Plus lots of strategy / political talk during Serene and Hrathen's chapters may be a little slower and drag on for younger teens).► The Detailed Overview:I've seen Brandon Sanderson before in the bookstore, but I've never given his books a try. Because I teach teenagers, most of the books I read now are teen fantasy and fiction. But, to be honest, I haven't found a good fantasy novel for myself that I've REALLY enjoyed probably since I was in high school (despite fantasy being my favorite genre). There have been a few exceptions over the years, but overall modern fantasy is often very dark, grisly, filled with sex, foul language, and are often allegories to real-world political issues. I'm with Tolkien on that one. Allegories = yuck. I usually start reading them, but get about halfway or so through before I can't stand the plot anymore and close the book. But after buying several books for my classroom library, Amazon suggested that I might be interested in "Elantris" as well. The synopsis sounded interesting (and many people online swear by his books) and so I went ahead and decided to give it a try.So glad I did! This book was refreshing and really enjoyable. I love that it's self-contained (though I heard the author is planning to possibly write another? Or already has?). The worldbuilding is very interesting and well thought out. The conflict is hooking, the characters are really likeable--and thankfully there is no vulgar language, no sex scenes, and the political battles within it are related to THAT world's politics and history. They aren't direct allegories of our own. (Plus, some of the characters are just downright funny). Yes, there are some darker parts to the story that show the gravity of their situation, but the author doesn't linger on them long and avoids being too grisly--which I'm thankful for.Any critiques I had are smaller, but there are some. The first of two (though I wouldn't call them big complaints overall), is that toward the end when some characters die or reunite, it feels like you don't get time to feel it. Sometimes a death of a character you like would happen so suddenly and out-of-the-blue and then the story would just roll on into the next scene. Or some great reveal is made, and they again continue on into the next scene without the reader getting to see how people really react to it. And since you've waited several chapters to see some of those reactions, it was a little frustrating. The second was that there were times I did roll my eyes at just how often Serene emphasized that she was a woman and couldn't allow herself to be defeated by a man (or how other characters talked about admiring her, not as a woman, but as an equal--which felt a tad preachy and corny simply because they said it too often)--but she was still written well and she does learn in fact that sometimes her drive to stand out as a woman of power causes her to overcompensate and really screw up at times, which felt realistic. She is a strong and likeable character who makes a difference and wants to feel that she belongs, but she isn't flawless and realizes when she goes too far. So, despite the fact that I rarely like female characters in novels (despite being a woman), I found that I really did end up liking her character. And I was surprised to find that I really respected Hrathen's character and how the author respectfully dealt with the conflict of rivaling religious denominations in the story. (Though Raoden and Galladon were still my favorite characters by far). So, yes! It's definitely worth a read! I think I'll start looking into more Brandon Sanderson novels after this.

Brandon Sanderson's stand alone cosmere novel
I loved it (bit of a 'dragging' start but in hindsight that only adds to the satisfying progression of the story). It is not as excessive on the greater fantasy dynamics as are other cosmere novels, but since it's not part of a series, such as mistborn or the stormlight archive, it's understandably a bit more 'modest'. Since Brandon Sanderson has elaborate conceptions of so many possible worlds in his - or our - cosmere universe, Elantris is a very rich and immersive story to be swallowed and suprised by. All that put aside, the delivery went smooth/fast.
