I ordered this battery on 29 March 2012 when it was described as 'new' as well as genuine. A genuine NiMH Nokia battery arrived. It was originally supplied to the French market as the writing on it was in French. It was scratched and had clearly been in someone else's phone for many years. It did not work. I complained to the seller via Amazon email and was sent an apology and replacement immediately, with a packet to return the first one. The replacement was exactly the same, except the writing on it was in English. It also didn't work. I emailed and spoke to Amazon customer services and was advised to try again before going through Amazon's complaints procedure. (At some point, the seller had removed the description 'new', but it was definitely there when I ordered it because the description 'new' remains on my order record.) So I complained again to the seller, pointing out that I was expecting a new battery and that I wanted my money back if they couldn't supply one. They responded with the exact same apologetic text as the first response (copy and paste) and sent me a second hand lithium ion battery this time. This did not work. I then went through the Amazon complaints procedure, and got a refund. It took me a good 3 or 4 hours to work out how to complain and to compose my complaints in order to get my £9.99 refunded. The batteries probably cost them nothing, since they are only good for recycling, and most people will probably write off the money and move on. I only got my refund because I made the time and was driven by my anger at this cynical approach to making money. They are getting away with fraud. If you are tempted to buy a used battery, remember that they are only 'used' because they have already failed in another phone. It is immoral to expose them for sale. Earlier good reviews may be genuine, from people who got new batteries when they were still available from residual stock. Also, this seller is known on Amazon as Media Electronics. The proper name of this company is Online Media Electronics Ltd. Find their website and make up your own mind about them before buying from them. Because of the incomplete seller name, I could not find their website before ordering. Finally, I contacted Nokia and they say that these batteries are no longer manufactured. It is my guess that residual stocks have now all gone. I'm going to try buying a new Li-ion battery for my beloved 3310, and write off the cost if it doesn't extend the life of my phone. Nokia branded batteries are no longer obtainable, and I don't think anyone makes these as NiMH any more.

Buyer Beware
I would guess most looking for this battery are seeking a replacement for an ancient but still loved NOKIA 3310Once upon a time and long ago a replacement battery was easy to obtain now sadly a nightmare.NOKIA stopped manufacturing the battery several years ago and all remaining stock of the genuine article are exhausted. This forces buyers into the nightmare world of derivatives, second hand batteries sold as new or downright fakesA battery produced in Far East or USA and sold as 'NOKIA' will be missing the NOKIA hologram which confirms authenticity and will be skilfully dressed up to look like the real thing.....it most certainly is not.I do not believe a seller should use words like 'genuine' or 'retail packed' although in my experience this seller always responds courteously to queries claiming the Nokia packaging was removed for environmental reasons.Really ?If the buyer is lucky the battery will function properly and there is protection in purchasing via Amazon.Sadly there is and will be no alternative

The Right Stuff
Have a look through this short checklist:1) Your phone originally came fitted with a Nickel Cadmium (Nicad) or Nokia BMC-3 NiMH (Nickel-Metal-Hydride) battery (like the one being offered / reviewed here).2) The original battery wore out (maybe more than once) and you eventually bought a Nokia BLC-2 Li-Ion battery to replace it.3) The BLC-2 doesn't seem to charge properly - it only charges for about an hour at the most before shutting off, and if you are lucky, it may last 2 days in standby before you have to recharge it.Does this all sound familiar to you?Although the new Li-Ion batteries are an exact physical fit for the phone, some phones are so old that they don't know how to charge a Li-Ion battery, hence the poor performance even with a brand new, genuine, original Nokia BLC-2.This battery, the older NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) version, is the CORRECT version for your phone. Since buying this and running it through a few charge/discharge cycles I'm now getting around 5-6 days and nights of standby from my Nokia 3330 again, the same performance it had when it was new in 2001.My battery (A genuine BMC-3) was originally supplied to me by Fonem8, but the supplier Amazon directs you to for this item will have changed many times over since this review was written. If you have the problems described above when using a BLC-2 Li-Ion battery in your old phone, be sure to check that the battery you are buying from the current supplier is a NiMH (Nickel-Metal-Hydride) BMC-3 as advertised, and NOT a BLC-2 Li-Ion 'Equivalent'.

Was it this or t'other?
Bought this at about the same time as I bought a new charger (for my ancient "brick") as the old battery was refusing to hold a charge for longer than about two minutes. The new battery holds a charge until I try to use the phone and then all that happens is the phone dies on me .... since I bought both items at the same time to cure the problem, I don't know if it's the new charger that's duff, the new battery that's duff .... or both :-(

It does the job!
Ok, it's dull to review a battery but I was happy with my prehistoric phone and didn't want to shell out for something not as good and for gadgets I didn't need. This battery was an answer to a prayer, slotted straight in and has been working well for 8 months now. What more could you ask for?UPDATE - Feb 2010 and it's still going strong!!UPDATE 2 - April 2011 and it's still working well.

Nokia Battery
Very nice compact unit. Looking forward to a long life from this rugged unit. Essential for a hand telephone here which only gets intermittent use.
