Handy sized book, well laid out and looks to be very useful for foreign language averse Brits.

will get you around, but i prefere apps these days, its useful when there no phone or internet signal.

Useful book

Perfect for learning the basics. Well laid out in sections for eating out, travelling etc. Gives the pronunciation next to the words which is always handy. Can't wait to try out my German when I visit the country.

Bought this for a river cruise I'm going on, along the Rhine & the Moselle. Love the way there is a dictionary at the back, also the bitesize phrases and helpful general information. Would recommend book and seller.

I can't fault this book for the grammar, which is fine. But it is in a severe need of an upgraded edition for modern technology and times. For instance, in the section about cash vs cards, they say that many places in Germany do not accept cards, which nowadays is absolute bunk. I've just returned from a German holiday (hence buying this book) and literally everywhere accepted cards, with the exception of very small businesses and cabs preferred cash but would take card as well. So it seems very outdated. Definitely needs to be modernised, this edition seems about 10 years out of touch at least with the modern country. Most of the phrases were pretty useless. There are better books out there, this one is just "ok"
