A classic by a brilliant mind; a cheap publication
This is one of the most important intellectual contributions of one of the greatest thinkers of the last century. To use the language of his once disciple turned intellectual adversary, Derrida - "Foucault wanted to write a history of madness itself, that is madness speaking on the basis of madness itself; that is madness speaking on the basis of its own experience and under its own authority, and not a history of madness described from within the language of reason...." It makes us look at the problem of madness as a discourse and not as a definitive science. Unfortunately this South Asian edition of Routlege is an apology of its original paperback. The pages are porous and thin like a mass market paperback and the overall look is horribly cheap.
