Poor Design Choices
This seemed like a great idea when our 18 month old daughter began showing interest in tablets. She and I played with it for an hour, quickly encountering many of the same negative criticisms:- The power button is in the worst location possible - small children will turn it off/on constantly- In conjunction with the previous, the software loads very slowly and any restart takes a few minutes- The stylus lanyard is much too short, you can barely hold it correctly as a writing utensil- The camera has a nonsensical delay and poor quality images considering the screen technology- Yes, the add-on cartridges and downloads are overpriced. The free/inexpensive downloads have very little content i.e. they are cheap.- Most of the built-in apps are basic at best; only a few are mildly entertainingObviously durability is the only thing it does well. If that is a huge factor and your child is under 3 years old, go with one of VTech's other more basic devices like the Write & Touch. It costs half as much and provides twice as much entertainment for that age group. Otherwise, I recommend spending your money on one of the more technologically advanced, inexpensive tablets.

Years of Entertainment Ahead
Great toy for 18 month old boy. It has withstood several drops already and still works well. There are a few glitches, such as the initial set-up screen comes up repeatedly. This does not affect the usability of the product, though. The case must be removed before batteries can be replaced, and the case covers up the headphone jack. If anyone who works for VTech designs reads this, it would be appreciated to figure out a way to keep the baby from accidentally turning it off. Even with all of the above, the product is great, there are more apps available than I can hope to cover, and the toy will grow with the child for years to come. The camera rotates so that it can be used in either direction. There are stories, music, video capabilities, camera capabilities, games, and more. I have already started shopping for this same product for my nephews.

good toy... bad power button placement.
It's a good toy for a baby but I have to agree with other posts. The power button is just too tempting for children. And when I read that I didn't see what the big deal was. Who cares if the child turns it on and off. Well the problem is once it is turned off... to turn it back on to games and other apps your child would have to click on their profile then get to where the apps are and open an app. Maybe there r babies smarter than mine but he just can't do that. So now we r probably going to find a way to make the power button less tempting to push... maybe put a piece of tape over it? I'm not sure yet.But other than that my son loves playing with this toy. His father has a tablet and he really enjoys playing with that but this toy gives him his own. We only use this toy when traveling long distances.Oh and yes it does take a few seconds when trying to open an app or get into ur profile. But it's a baby toy they really don't care as much as we do.

It's not a bad product for what it is--baby's first tablet
It's not a bad product for what it is--baby's first tablet, but there are a lot of things I wish I'd considered before purchasing it. Firstly, it takes AA batteries (not lithium), so you'll constantly be recharging and restocking batteries. Secondly, the load times on just the nascent apps are ridiculous. Under no circumstances does a baby have the attention span necessary to wait 30 seconds for a game to boot up (and that's just from the app screen. It's about 4 minutes from power-on through profile selection to get to any interactive software). Lastly, there doesn't seem to be anyway to track the analytics of your little one's interactions--how long does he spend on one game? any progress? I got this for a 7 month old, but I wish I'd waited and gotten the Nabi instead. Overall, though, this is a decent toy for the price point. There are hours of play here (once you get past load time) and it's a decent starting place. Just don't let your LO out of your sight with this toy--I never would do that, but even in my arms, my LO managed to gag on the stylus. Food for thought?

The power button should have been put in a better place. The device has a fairly long delay for each option selected, except the power button. A child learning what things do prefers to see the results of their actions right away. The delay makes my son think nothing is happening. However, the power button works immediately upon pushing it. Therefore, my son is always turning it off. So unless I am sitting there with him, covering the power button, it is useless. I am planning on finding a way to cover the power button but haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

My 2 year old loves it!
We bought this for our 2 year old about 6 months ago. So far we love it for him and he adores it too. It's very sturdy and the hanle is great for tiny fingers. It doesn't take as long as other models to load and there are lots of fun games and activities that are preloaded into the device. The only drawback for us is that you can't have headphones in with the protective case on it.

Nice tablet but one terrible flaw
It is a nice little tablet, but the design is very faulty. Why would you put a giant yellow off button right in front where a toddler cannot help but push it? It only upsets my little man cause he keeps just turning it off. Why wouldnt they put it on the back? So this is probably perfect for an older kid who can understand that it is the power button and wont be so tempted to push it maybe 3 or 4?

Great for years of learning and growing!
Bought these for my 2 year old boys birthday, and they love them so far! Super easy to set up. Even the computer part of the set up was a breeze. The only think I am not a fan of is having to take the whole case apart to put a cartridge in. I do understand why though. This has held up well so far against drops (and throws) and is still working great.

Well I bought this in hopes of my son using and playing with it. Nope. He prefers my iPod. Maybe if I can actually download the Learning Lodge I can add a few more games to the Tablet, but I've had trouble downloading it. It'll load up halfways and say there's a problem with the server. So, it's just sitting there collecting dust.
