Fun build!
Relatively easy to build. Very fun. Wish it came with batteries. The instructions were good but can be confusing for beginners

Erector Nerd
I love building things (have since I was a child), so as for the product itself, it's awesome for someone who likes building, even adults! It's not a huge challenge (the car is level 2) but it was still fun to put together while watching my favorite shows and relaxing on my day off. And by the time I was done, I felt very happy with it. If only it came with batteries!!!I plan on buying many more erector sets, as I'm a big fan and I just like tinkering. The great thing about them is there are many designs you can build in the instructions, not just one. So you can take the set apart and build something else entirely. It's not just one car -- it's several in one package! As for the seller, they shipped the set without packaging (just stamped the actual box), so you could clearly see what it was. Ironically, this probably saved the package from being stolen. I live in an unfortunate city where porch thieves are abundant. They probably glanced at the box, thought it was just a toy car, and left it, saving me the aggravation of having to report another stolen package.Don't worry. I use Amazon Lockers now. But if you don't want the contents of the package revealed, be sure to check the box that opts you into Amazon packaging.

Challenging but doable for a interested child
The screws are quite small. I guess an 8 year old could manage it with small hands but I had a hard time while helping my 5 year old fitting them into some hard to reach places despite the wrench tool that had a small "tweezer" to aid in it. The powered motor could be a bit more faster for a "race car" but my 5 year old loved it. Note I had to build most of it and he was doing all of the tightening of the screws. Definitely meant for a child 8 and up if no adult help is available.

Awesome stem toy-great brain workout for my 9 year old
My son turned 9 this was a birthday gift for him. He’s got it about 1/2 put together so far. I give it a win win for this stem toy! It was inexpensive and it’s working his growing brain it’s awesome...

Not something most 8-9 year olds can do on their own.
I bought this for my 9 year old son, hoping he could do it on his own. This review reflects the actual review of the toy and the process of putting together. The quality of the product was great, and overall I am satisfied and got what I expected. The pro's: instructions easy to follow, worked in the sense of giving my son something mechanical to do rather than another electronic gift. One Final Note, if the designers of this would have made some of the plastic holes threaded the toy would have been 100% more fun. The problem was trying to hold pieces together with one hand, a small tiny nut with another, and the screwing it in from the other side. Some of the situations just made it impossible for my son. My son is in the gifted classes at school, and I am an engineer by trade (in case someone reading this think we are just stupid). The con's: My son could not do this on his own at 9. The space to put things together were very small at his ability level. So I had to encourage him and do probably 30% of the job for him. I was hoping I could just sit by and advise. Also, once together, the screws come loose and it rattles apart after actually playing with it. It took lots of patience. It took us about 2 hours to put together, with me letting my son struggle through it before jumping in to help. I don't think he would be interested in jumping back in to try another configuration.

Great gift
I bought this as a gift for my 8 yr old nephew. He is very interested in science, building, legos, etc. He was very excited to get this as a gift. It is a little complicated, but it will challenge him and show him how to use simple tools to build his toy.
