No instructions and nice illustrations. You MUST take apart the glass that overs the bulb and remove a small rubber piece that was added for shipping so the bulb doesn't break. Unit has great flow rate. Search YouTube if you want to see it in action before you purchase it.

This is a great product for the price. I used it to kill off an algae bloom in my 30 gallon tank. It took about 4 days to start getting positive results, then the tank cleared immensely. It is a little big, so it sticks out a little like a sore thumb. I will note that the little window to tell if the lamp is working is difficult to see, you need to have all the lights off to see the light through the dot.

Excellent Product. I am so pleased, I bought more of them. The 5-watt model just fits inside my ten-gallon aquarium, but then again, I have no substrate and am using a bare bottom aquarium. (**Word of warning -- like an internal heater, this product needs to be unplugged before draining the water, as the water keeps it from over-heating).

Updated August 6, 2018 (most recent)Fist I have to say this seller deserves a chance, he has gone far beyond anyone to fix the issue, and for that, I have updated my reviews several times, because finally, I have a product that worksThe issue with this unit it seems to be the light bulb, which burns rather quickly, until the seller sent me a new unit with a different light bulb, the new light bulb is working after almost two months with about 6 hours of daily use.The light Bulb in the new unit is model UV-5W, 1803AThe following is my communications with the seller about the issuesThank you for your concern and your excellent customer service.I can confirm you that I received the third replacement unit, I will be installing the new pump set at the end of this week.The light bulb in the older two previous units is model UV-5W, 1712AThe light Bulb in the new unit is model UV-5W, 1803AI switched the new light bulb to the older unit, and it turned on. So I can confirm that the ballast in the older unit works. That proves that the light bulb UV-5W, 1712A, in the old pump is burned out.I reinstalled the new light bulb back into the new unit, an I will put to work in the aquarium, and I will let you know about the results.I can confirm, reports from other buyers, in which the protective glass sleeve of the light bulb is cracked in some cases.When I opened the sleeve compartment on the old pump, the glass was broken above the level of the rubber seal, though water did not enter inside the sleeve, it possible that in some instances the glass had been broken below the seal, though confirming the reports from another buyer. That is an issue while assembling the product at the factoryI can not help you with regards to the specs of either light bulb, as they do not have a brand name, and I can not cross reference either of the model numbers that are stamped in the light bulbs.

Very quality product. Cleared tank within 1 day. The biggest issue is there wasnt a sponge or filter floss within the unit itself, even though it said it on the manual. Overall good product, but understand the size, as it was a lot larger than I had originally expected.

This was significantly larger than I had anticipated, but that said, within a few days I can now see through my water column. No more green water! The air intake doesn't seem to work however. Being that I didn't purchase this for that feature, I don't care so much. Just a warning for those who might.

I purchased this unit to control unwanted flora/fauna in my hydroponic reservoir. I wasn't sure how effective it would be, but after 2 weeks, the water in my rez is crystal clear and plants are healthy. Wish I'd got sooner.My one complaint is that on the 5 watt unit, it is impossible to see the light at the bottom of the unit that indicates whether the bulb is working. It's just too dim, so one must remove the bottom cover periodically to check if the bulb is on, which is quite inconvenient, or, just wait for the algae to show up, which is not optimal. But for this 1 glaring flaw, the unit fn.
