What ink does it take? Will it keep printing b&w if the color is empty but black full? I only care about simple b&w.

It takes HP60 or 60XL (more ink in cartridges). It's unused in the box so I can't say from use if it needs 2 cartridges (included, old stock). From the User Guide, however, Use the ink-backup mode to operate the HP Printer with only one print cartridge. The ink backup mode is initiated when a print cartridge is removed from the print cartridge carriage. During ink-backup mode, the product can only print jobs from the computer. So simply take one cartridge out, but you have to use USB to print. That's like some other printers I use.

Can this printer work with Windows 10 ?

I have Windows 10 and this printer and I have no problems printing! There is a driver for it because I updated mine at one time and it's still printing, but don't know if they are still offering the updated driver or not.
