Very helpful for emotional child
My 7 year old is using this and she does about 4 pages a day 3 or 4 days a week. She has had difficulty with knowing what to do with her emotions in positive ways in the past and coloring and drawing have helped her so much when she feels overwhelmed. And of course this encorporates school and learning as well. This has a variety of pages where some are "logic games" .. complete the pictures and sequences, coloring page with a blank part where she likes to make up a to do list of her own, and for the book page I often will have her choose one to read to me and one book on cd and two she can pick for me to read to her. There is also a movie page to watch an educational show and write about it or draw pictures from it. Possibly her favorite pages to do are the nature pages where it says to draw a picture from something in nature. Usually running outside to find a leaf or flower is the way she does this.

A Great main Journal For The Younger Children.
I bought this book for my just turned 8 yo son. He adores it. This is his main journal. Like the older children's journal he picked out books to read & write about in it.It has logic games, pgs of the cutest animals to color or trace, nature study, draw whatever interest him, lots of places to color, movie time where he writes & draws about an educational movie he watched, & copy work from one of his books. He chose this one after watching the video review below. he was so excited when it came in that he ran off hugging it & went into his fort with his colored pencils to work in it.

Disappointing
When I came across this series of books and the great reviews, I picked out 4 titles for my various-aged homeschooled kids. We were really excited for the books to arrive. When they did, I was very disappointed. The covers are nice and the paper quality of the pages is good, but the rest is basically what I can get from a coloring book in the dollar store. The coloring pages are mediocre. The "educational" pages are very, very repetitive, with a header like "writing time" that serves as a blank area to fill in. These types of pages are repeated many times each throughout the book. For the price, I was expecting much, much more. At 1/4 of the price, I might have thought this a good value for the money. It was a great idea in theory, but disappointing in practice, especially given the high price tag. I will probably return this for a refund.

We love Sarah's Journals
We love Sarah's Journals! I received this one free from a mom's night out giveaway! However, this review was not required (as it was a giveaway) but I loved it so much I figured I'd come leave a review for those, like me, who were on the fence. This journal has been a BLESSING for my 5 year old. He asks for his journal, and likes to "show everyone how smart he is". It's also nice that he can take a break to color for a bit before continuing on to another page. It's also enticed him to get books at the library on things he enjoys or wants to learn about which is a good habit for once schooling gets harder. On a personal note about the author: I do not know Sarah personally. However, I have seen her participate in conversations on the Facebook group regarding her books. She loves touching base with those using her books, and often gives books away to those in need (she recently gave some to kids in the hospital!!). For me the books are enough to spend more than I should, but to know the author is in this for much more than the money. If you're on the fence my advice would be to get off the fence and join the bandwagon. My only word of advice is to be prepared to fall in love and easily spend more than you originally wanted to because you want them all...

She loves to work on it independently. We pair it with library books and more traditional math and ELA curricula to make the perfect homeschool plan for our family.

This has been a great addition to our homeschooling for my daughter (8) who likes to feel in control of her own learning. She picks and page and a topic to read about, and she is off and learning with a smile :)

This book is perfect for beginning readers
This book is perfect for beginning readers, as it gives enough of a push to write and read, but allows them the option to draw their answers if needed. Several people have complained about the repetition of the book, but I love that aspect as my daughter doesn't have to come and ask me what she needs to do, once we cover the types of pages and how they work. She loves the art work, and enjoys the activities.

Four Stars
I was disappointed that most of the pages repeated themselves. I was hoping for mire variety.

I don't normally like ages or grades on our books but this one is perfect for my 6 year old so I am ok with it. He is enjoying this and learning all at the same time. Win win!
