50 footers work as designed
These heat strips are keeping my water lines warm in the winter. They come on below 40 degrees F. My electric bill did go up some because I’m using 3 50 footers (150 feet). Less feet used will mean your electric shouldn’t go up very much. Got to keep the water flowing though. After zip tying these to the waterlines I also insulated the pipes and made sure air flow can’t blow away the heat since some of my lines are outside. Good quality and plug ins light up orange so you know their getting power.

SUPER HEATER FOR KEYLIME TREE
I Bought this heat tape last summer for a special keylime citrus tree project in south carolina. It has worked like super great with the on at 38 degand and off at 45 deg. . I built a H pattern 2.5 inch pvc 6ft tall with 3/4" tees at three places on the top and wrapped it with this 15 ft. tape with thesensor starting on the bottom r/h side. I /also have 3 sets of xmas tree lights on this key lime tree to keep it from getting frozen this winter. All of this is in a plastic tent around the keylime tree. The xmas tree lights maintain a normal low warmth effect and the 15 ft. 105 watt pvcpipe heater picks up the slack when the temperature in the tent drops below 38 deg. I almost got in trouble this week with the blast fromcanada with a wind chill of 5 degrees. My tent temp went to 30.8 low for about an hour before the sun coming up saved me. I plan to install asecound heater next summer for extreme cold spells from the canadian express.I am trying to grow keylimes year around. I monitor the tent temp with an indoor/outdoor electronic thermostat. One receiver is in my kitchenand the other one is on my dresser by my bed. I can wake up and open one eye and know exactly what is going on when the cold airis blasting its way in.Fun Project Del2/15/2015Update on KeyLime PVC heater project;I wrapped my plastic tent with a secound layerof plastic and this has really improved thetemperature in the Keylime tent. This heater now keeps the temp around 39-42 deg.with outside temps at 24 degs. The Keylime tree is now starting to start itsnew spring growth.I am planning to try it on a lime tree in thefront yard where I can grow limes year around.I am looking at using and AHB018 or the 18ft.heat tape since the plastic tent will be aa little bigger.Del

Perfect for outdoor spigot
I wrap this around my outdoor spigot, buy the shortest length possible though, works great for Chicago winters, I never worry about the spigot or pipe freezing, just run a heavy duty extension cord to it, keep the plug end dry

It worked OK, eventually, with some jiggling
I bought the 80-foot item. Installation went as expected. The instructions are pretty good. Of course, you need to purchase some kind of adhesive tape separately, to attach the cable to the pipe. I used the brand tape ( Easy Heat HCA 30-Foot Pipe Heating Cable Application Tape - four rolls for 160') but you can use any high temperature rated electrical tape. Like always with these cables, you need to lay out the cable plan so that the full cable can be in contact with the pipe, including the thermostat module. The thermostat module needs to be attached directly to the pipe, hopefully at the coldest point. As for performance... it did work... eventually. We spent a lot of time jiggling things around before the cable actually started working. I can't tell you if it was a contact point in the plug, in the thermostat module, or in the end-cap at the other end. I can tell that it took several tries of adjusting the position of the cable before it started working. That doesn't inspire confidence. (And yes, I know it should have been working because I have an air temp sensor in place, as well as spot checks with an IR gun.) When it did start working, it did keep the pipe nice and toasty between 38 and 48 F. Note that the tape does not continuously run; it cycles on and off based on temperature demand.Do yourself a favor and get a weather sensor with outdoor probe and stick that under the insulation to keep track of the pipe temperature. Or get a Kill-A-Watt energy monitor ( P3 P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor ) so you know if the cable is working. If the thermostat activates overnight, you won't be there, but the Kill-A-Watt will be there to measure the usage.I do wish the thermostat module was not flat, hard plastic. It would be better if it were concave-rounded to fit to a pipe more closely; even better if it were soft so you could mold it to the pipe surface and form a better thermal contact point.

works as it should
I have a crawl space that my main water line is in. I didn't know that my previous heat tape had burnt out until my pipes froze. I like the Easy Heat brand, my old heat tape was Easy Heat and it lasted 20 years. I did struggle to find the longer size somewhere instore but thankfully Amazon had one. I received it in a reasonable time frame. The heat tape was very easy to install and just plugs into a regular outlet.
