Great expansion for a really fun game!
Really a review for the whole game not just the expansion......Years ago we were given the base game as a gift. At first , before we opened the box , we thought it a game for younger kids. We love board games and gave it a shot anyway. Wow! So glad we did! We LOVE this game. It has different ways to play depending on the age of the players. My 5 kids now range from 24-12 and we have really enjoyed it. When we played on the hardest level it took us months to win the game. The kids would ask for this game on the nights we had free from activities. ( they actually wanted to spend time together , made my momma heart happy for sure ) The easiest set of rules would be just right for younger children. The cooperative play makes for exciting and unified game strategies with less trash talking ( well at each other anyway). The art work is wonderfully whimsical and beautifully rendered. The pieces are well thought out and made . It only goes up to 4 game players but when we have 5 players we have that extra one play the part of the ghosts. And then we found this expansion! We gave it to the "kids" for Christmas and it was the first game played that afternoon. We absolutely adore this expansion as much as we do the base game. It adds new rules, scenarios and cute artwork. Oh and the boxes stack nicely together. That makes it easier to keep them together on the shelf.A game to stay in our home for a long time for sure.

Great production and expansion, but very difficult to win
My family and I really enjoyed the base game for this. However, the base game is on the easier side. This expansion is great, but you should know going into this, it swings the difficultly the other way. We have not beat this yet. However, I can see it is possible. We can always look back and see where we made our mistake. Great expansion!

Fabulous Game Expansion!
Fabulous expansion. My kids had about 50 plays of the base game (we love it). After that many plays, interest had started to wane. This has renewed our zeal for a great family co-op game. I did end up ditching the expansion box and insert and put all the components into the base game box. They fit fine with no issues in the larger ghost and haunter openings in the plastic insert in the base game box.

Excellent expansion! Great for this upcoming halloween
A big kudos to Mattel Games for bringing this wonderful game and sticking to producing this expansion. Same quality as the original. This expansion is a tad harder than the base game

If you like the original there is no reason not to get the expansion
This is an expansion to the original Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters. It adds cellar with two rooms, cursed items, the Ghost King that cannot be exorcised, and some of his tricks, like teleporting a player in one of the rooms. The rules are slightly more complicated, but this allows for more variety. Because the cards now have more non-ghost generating actions the gameplay is somewhat easier, but thanks to the King if you are unlucky you can lose in a seemingly harmless situation in one turn.I found the expansion to be as fun to play as the original and for those those kids enjoyed it there is no reason NOT to get the expansion to add more interesting situation in the gameplay.

Nice expansion!
We loved the original game, and it was our go-to game for about a year. It's still in our top five games (It's kind of like Clue meets Ghostbusters, and it's nice that you all win or you all lose together). So when the expansion came out it rekindled our joy for the game. It's not drastically different, just a few different challenges, but they also made secret passages (like in Clue) and that was fun too. You can combine the two, or play just one or other. When there's a big group we've even taken little plastic army men to use as character pieces, you can totally scale the game up or down depending on what cards and rules you use. If you liked the original game, this will be a welcome addition, even if it's not anything crazy different.

Really adds a lot of depth to the base game
The Ghost Hunters base game is a favorite in my family. It's good, simple fun. But the addition of this expansion takes it to a whole new level! It adds a lot to the complexity and challenge of the game - which is great! I love that we can play the base game when we want some simple, easy fun - or we can add the expansion when we want a greater challenge. This is a very creative expansion!

Cooperative game play!
We played the base game more often than any other game -- and we have about 300 games. Ghost theme is not gross or graphic, but colorful, playful, and friendly for the sensitive ones. Play is strategy-based with enough chaos (dice rolls determining mischief) to keep it exciting and fun. We added this expansion and love the game even more with the added challenge of the cellar! Bonus: game helped the kiddo (8 y.o.) make peace with some fears. Also put the wee back in Halloween, so the season is fun not gory and scary.

Definitely recommended - More chaos, but overall a more engaging game
I'd been greatly enjoying the base game with my kids, as well as family friends - with the latter as a casual, easy to pick up game. I ended up purchasing the Creepy Cellar Expansion with more of a 'fear of missing out' or completionist motivation, rather than having a burning desire to play it immediately. In fact, left it in shrink-wrap for a couple of weeks.Eventually opened up the box and had a game. There are a lot more moving parts than the core game, including the Ghost King moving about the board based on locations drawn from his deck, cursed treasures to hinder players while they carry them; cellar cards players must draw on return of treasures - often resulting in jinxed items that must be returned to certain rooms - or if lucky, the removal of a ghost or a free move; secret doors to enable occasional shortcuts; abductions by the ghost king - teleporting players around the map; as well as a requirement to return treasures to two different cellar rooms in a fixed sequence. I was tempted to use an alternate mode from the manual to gradually introduce the new components. However, just threw everything in to see what happened...Actually nearly beat the game in my first play with the expansion. It was only a last-second abduction by the ghost king which carted away a player away from the exit and led to a loss. Second game we won after lots of back and forth battles and random events that dragged us around the boards, and a focused team effort to cull haunters and therefore avoid a last-second chain reaction as we made our way to the exit.Thoroughly enjoyed the new remix that the expansion provides. It's more complex, sure, but never seems 'too much'. Strangely, despite all the extra barriers the game seems to be throwing against the players, it (at least on the basis of the plays so far) does not seem to be considerably harder to win.Definitely recommended. Lots more flavor leading to a slightly longer but more entertaining game.
