The Visit: The Origin of "The Night Before Christmas" (hard cover)

I love this account of how Clement Moore wrote his famous poem, The Night Before Christmas. It is a true account as told from one of his descendants to the author. The story is well told and beautifully illustrated. I saw it in one of my local libraries at Christmastime, and wanted a copy to share with our extended family and grandchildren. I highly recommend it!

Iam an adult and considered giving this story as a gift for a younger person. I have decided to keep it and add it to my other Mark Moulton books. I will purchase several more for the little ones. This is the story, in poem, of how Clement Moore came to write THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS. The story is mesmerizing but the art is more than special. Each very large page is beautifully illustrated by Susan Winget. Every page could be framed because they are so artfully done. At the end is the illustration of Clement Moore's handwritten offering of The Night Before Christmas dated 1862, one year before his death, along with his signature. What a wonderful gift to a child, to read Christmas Eve, in lieu of just the Santa poem. Iam deeply satisfied with this book and am happy to add it to my bookcase. The only thing better would be a signed copy. Any book-loving adult will treasure this book.

What a wonderful way to learn about the origin of this special poem. Love that it was was written in the same style and prose as the original poem. Well worth the purchase.

Ordered the first one after hearing a reading of the same at our retirement home. One of the residents asked if I could find it on the internet. Of course I could find for her on AMAZON. End up ordering 3 more for other ladies so would think that it was well accepted.

I found this by accident looking for The Night Before Christmas for my 3 grandchildren this Year (2014) & should have ordered more for gifts.....my husband & I read it first & loved every detail....the illustrations are beautiful! This book will become part of our Christmas every year from now on....a must for every home & every child no matter how old you are.....GREAT BOOK! :)

This book is a delightful telling of how "The Night Before Christmas" came to be written. The story is charming, and the artwork is beautiful. It excited my imagination, just as it did the children I gave it to. I kept a copy for myself as well. This is a great book.

I was very sad to see that the 2003 Copyright is a shortened version of the original book, The Visit, 2001 Copyright. Portions have been deleted, and portions have been edited to change the words that were in the original version. I wanted to have two copies of this book because it would be easier to hold one and read out loud and have someone else hold the second one for the audience to see the pictures. The illustrations are excellent. Everyone that hears this story about how the poem, "The Night Before Christmas" came to be written, just loves it, especially older adults. I wish I could return the 2003 Copyright copy, because I cannot even give it as a gift knowing that the whole story is not there. Continue your search for a 2001 Copyright version, even if you must buy a used copy.
